Heckathorn
he has strikeout ability, pitches to contact, eats up innings, mid-90’s fastball
I like the sound of a future 1-2-3 of Yo, Odorizzi, and Heckathorn

This gets a rec.
That will be the best staff that the Brewers have had since… I dont know when
(I dont count CC, Sheets, Yo, because they were not in the rotation at the same time)

Let's hope so
Interesting that each of those guys wasn’t a top overall pick by the Brewers in the year they were selected, they were 2nd or 3rd.
I had a debate with my friend the other day after Strasburg got hurt, he was trying to tell me that it makes more sense to go position player with the top pick instead of a pitcher. I’m starting to agree with him. The amount of good and effective position players Brewers drafted 1st overall heavily overshadows the effective pitchers:
1969 – Gorman Thomas
1973 – Robin Yount
1977 – Paul Molitor
1983 – Dan Plesac
1985 – BJ Surhoff
1986 – Gary Sheffield
1989 – Cal Eldred
1995 – Geoff Jenkins
1999 – Ben Sheets
2002 – Prince Fielder
2003 – Rickie Weeks
2005 – Ryan Braun
That’s about 9 position players to 3 pitchers. I didn’t count guys like D’Amico who had 1 good year, and if you go by that philosophy, then maybe Weeks shouldn’t be on there, and if you do, you’d have to add Sveum probably. Mostly looking at guys who were effective major leaguers.

It's somthing like 26 position players to 14 pitchers
Kinda drives the point home though. 9 out of 26 against 3 out of 14. Even though a problem with a lot of pitchers was they didn’t sign, that still makes it seem safer to take those position players.
We’ll see, just an interesting look at the history.

I don't see why not
a plus fastball, great offspeed stuff, strikeout ability
he should be able to pitch well for a while

Liking Thornburg so far
Compared to Lincecum, numbers are there. Lower the walks and we’re all good.

from what I've heard
he has a low to mid-90s fastball with a good change-up. all he has to do is to get a consistent curveball
