Is it too soon to get excited about Dexter Bobo?
With such an awesome name, I hope his early results are merely confirmation of his greatness.
Obviously, it's a little silly to get too excited about anyone still in the AZL
But with 45 K in 30.1 innings, I think it’s fair to say he’s earned a longer look.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
And the point still stands
that his name is awesome no matter which league he’s playing in.
Go Reds! (This signature applies only through the 2010 regular season)
Gamel keeps crushing
And keeps playing 3rd base. This continues to confound me. He has to be on the trading block this summer, right? I can’t think of any other rational explanation.
Go Reds! (This signature applies only through the 2010 regular season)
Does he really need to play first base this season ...
… in order to be as “good” as Prince? I’m still expecting him to be the opening day starter at 1B next year after Prince is traded.
That is my hope.
That is not my expectation.
hit post too soon
but he probably will need some time to work out the kinks. I definitely expect a lot of little mental errors at first
Misconception
that the trade value of Fielder goes down if the other teams know that we have a viable replacement waiting in the wings.

Right
I’m slowly but surely starting to accept though that we’re probably not gonna get as much as everyone expects for Prince.
My thought process is, if we can move him for at least one legit major league starter, mission accomplished. Obviously I wouldn’t want them to stop there, cause he’s worth more than a 1 for 1 swap, but I think I’d rather see a good starter and a prospect than potentially good pitching prospect and three other mid-level prospects.

I think it's possible they're planning on having Fielder back next season.
I think there’s some truth to what Rosenthal said about a rough trade market for Fielder this offseason, and if that’s the case and Fielder doesn’t get dealt, then moving Gamel to first base would just be blocking him in a different spot.

True
Any possibility that McGehee is on the block this offseason? If they think Gamel can play third, and are serious about extending Weeks, thus blocking Lawrie, who would move to 1B in 2012 when Fielder bolts (if not sooner), why not sell high on McGehee?
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
I don't think they're serious about extending Weeks
If they extended Hart mid-season, why won’t they even negotiate with Weeks now? Lawrie needs a spot to play that’s not 1B.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
the to-do list for the Brewers' farm system
1) promote Heckathorn to AA
2) promote Odorizzi to either High-A or AA
3) promote Jeffress to AAA if he doesn’t pitch for the Brewers after ST
4) keep Arnett in low-A until he shows significant improvement
5) Peralta to AAA
6) maybe keep Thornburg in Helena for the first half of season and then promote him to low-A
They're almost certainly not going to skip steps with Odorizzi. He's probably in High A for 2011, AA for 2012 and AAA for the first half of 2013.
Aside from that, I’m fine with all of that list except perhaps #6 – there’s not a “first half of the season” in Helena – they don’t start playing games until June.

I don't think they'll skip levels with Odorizzi
But I wouldn’t be surprised if they moved him up to AA midway next season. They took a similar path with Gallardo, and now Peralta.
My goodness.

I'd have to think that's gotta be their plan
Unless he struggles in BC, probably something like 13 in A+ and 13 in AA next season, then start him at AAA in 2012.

Also, the more I think about it
I’m not sure what you gain by holding Arnett back at this point. At some point he’s either going to sink or swim. I’d send him to BC for 2011 and hope he learns something on the way up.
Now that's great tasting chicken!

true. but Arnett hasn't shown much consistency nor improvement lately
but I do know that his window of opportunity is closing fast
by ilikeburritos on Aug 27, 2010 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions
I disagree with the 2nd sentence
They drafted him high, they’re not just gonna give up on the kid if he can’t go up 1 level a year.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
Where?
SP or bullpen?
I personally am torn. I think he would perform better in the bullpen, but they really need him to be a starter.
If he does become a starter, where do you think he fits in the rotation?
by BrewCrewBrian on Aug 27, 2010 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions
I'll take one of whatever Dan Merklinger's having.
1.89 ERA, 87 K in his last 66.2 IP over ten starts.
