Missing bats....

Impressive game by Rogers. 6IP, 10K’s…all 10 swinging. Only 2 BB. Nice to see him pitching 6-7 innings into games the last couple outings.

The last two starts were with no restrictions

Apparently they were limiting both his pitch count and use of his 3rd and 4th pitch. Will be very interesting to see how he does the rest of the year, has potential to make an impact next year.

Exciting stuff

Khris Davis looks a little lost at the plate right now...

… but he played a fantastic LF last night.

the last 3 times I've looked

he’s had exactly a .300 average. And every game he’s been hitting better than 3/10.

is the script broken, or am I just not looking every day?

Gennett's E came on a thow to first.

We were sitting about 3 rows back right in line with 1B. The throw forced Morris to stretch and then jump slightly. He caught it and came back down to the bag and it looked to me like he beat the runner, but that wasn’t the call.

Lasker threw a lot of change ups and offspeed stuff last night.

He said afterward he couldn’t get his fastball under control until later in his start. He hit one and stood a couple of other guys up. The only run scored got on base with Gennett’s E (and a bad call at first). The runner then stole 2nd and then 3rd, and the throw to third ended up in foul territory in LF. Regardless of Lasker’s ability to control his fastball, he was very effective.

I guess they don't work on holding runners on in low A huh?

Darnit

I was all psyched to point out the first pro year of Bobby Hill (he of six career SB). He stole 81 bases in 2000, but sadly it was in indy ball and thus even less germane than I thought.

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

2000 Newark Bears

That was quite the collection of characters on that team you referenced for Bobby Hill. It included:
Bobby Bonds – Barry’s younger brother
Ozzie Canseco – Jose’s twin – who hit 48 HR and 12 2B that season)
Craig Worthington – who originally debuted 12 years earlier for the Orioles
Joe Borowski – who had already pitches parts of three seasons in the majors but would go on to save over 130 games in the majors after that season
