Iirc, I asked about Cruz beofre
And the consensus was that he wasn’t a strong prospect. Why bring him up unless maybe you wanted to play Escobar in the outfield a little?
Right-handed bat off the bench?
That’s my best guess.
My goodness.

Gives them another option to put at SS if they want to pull guys early or rest them
Right now Counsell is essentially the only backup infielder (Inglett can supposedly play 2B & 3B, but he has started one time at 2B and hasn’t been used at 3B and I don’t see any reason to think they will change that). With Cruz around, there is more flexibility on the infield for resting guys and double-switches.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
Possible replacement for Counsell next year
if the Deity decides to move onto another plane of existence.
I am glad for Kintzler
