ALCS Game 6 Open Thread
The Tigers' season is on the line tonight in Texas as Max Scherzer (4.43 ERA, 4.14 FIP in 2011, 2.70 ERA, 3.40 FIP postseason) takes the mound against Derek Holland (3.95 ERA, 3.94 FIP in 2011, 4.00 ERA, 7.80 FIP postseason) and the Rangers.
This game is also Brewer-related in a small way: If the Tigers win to force a Game 7 tomorrow, then they'll play in prime time and the NLCS Game 6 will be moved to a 3 pm slot. If the Rangers finish the series tonight, then the Brewers and Cardinals will play at 7.

Better to play at 3pm, better to play Detroit in ws.

I'd be happy not to have to play in Arlington, but having homefield advantage helps a lot.
I would also just like to go to the WS, and want them to play a game 7 so we can play an afternoon-shadow game at 3. My dog just got my shoe, so I should think about that right now…

I’m pulling for the Rangers because I think they’ll destroy the Cardinals.

I'm with you on that.
Also, I’m taking a night off from baseball. Inspired by your movie suggestions the other night I’m enjoying “Spartan,” starring a not-yet-fat Val Kilmer and directed by David Mamet. If the game’s not over when the movie is, it’ll be “The Winslow Boy.”

Well, I'm through "Spartan"
I’d seen it before forever ago and didn’t remember much.
I think it’ll be “Glengarry Glen Ross” tomorrow before the Packers game; I’ll be up no later than 6 and there isn’t much on at that time.
As Axford knows: “Coffee is for closers.” That’s the real reason K-Rod’s hacked off about being the 8th inning guy; he loves him some Kona Blend. :)

Well, I think it would be more fun to watch Detroit beat St. Louis than Texas.
At least it would be another team from the Great Lakes region, so it would sort of feel like a Milwaukee victory.

I hope not to say this in the NLCS Game Thread tomorrow...
…it has to be extraordinarily difficult to come into a game like this, down 10 runs, and give much of a crap.
I know, I know, they’re professionals, but baseball is IMHO unique in its requirment that there be one-on-one matchups and no ability of a team that’s way ahead to kill the clock or the team that’s behind essentially concede.
This is one of the main reasons I love the game more than other sports. But this is agonizing watching the Tigers’ season end so badly.

because he was so good or for some other reason?
wiki says this about him, but then wiki wouldn’t be able to explain why I like this team.
His best offensive numbers came in 1979, when he finished among the top 10 in the AL in batting average and home runs, and finished with the third-highest slugging percentage in the American League.2 That season, he was honored for his defensive skills with the only Gold Glove of his major league career.2
While with the Brewers, he became the only player in Major League Baseball history to hit a grand slam on Opening Day twice, doing so in both 1978 and 1980.6
After the 1980 season, he was part of a blockbuster 7-player trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, being one of four players traded in exchange for Rollie Fingers, Pete Vuckovich, and Ted Simmons.6 He wasn’t able to consistently crack the starting lineup in St. Louis, and batted .266 with the Cardinals in 1981.2
