I feel like something is conspiring in favor of the Cardinals this season

How else can you explain this season for them?

- They lose their best pitcher before the season, yet still have a good pitching staff.
- Their best player has an injury that normally keeps players out for 4-6 weeks heal in 15 days.
- They overcome an 8 1/2 game deficit in a month.

Why can’t the Brewers be the team that gets that favor? Why does the greatest season that we will probably see in our lifetimes have to end like this? This season is always going to be marred by the fact that the rival team will always be better than the Brewers. That alone makes me want to cry…

also, keep in mind the cardinals probably get better next year

everyone has to figure out middle infield, so they’re no worse off than another team. but they get wainwright back plus miller could come up by mid-year. even if they don’t re-sign pujols, they’ll be a tough team.

This Cardinal team is certainly no better than the ’06 model that won 83 regular season games and the WS.

In a perverse way

I have come to admire TLR. He is a pure take-no-prisoners Machiavelian. With him, the ends always justify the means, and there is no substitute for victory. He rarely forgives and never forgets, and when he has an opponent on the ropes, he carefully knots it around their neck.

Unfortunately, TLR got in RRR head during that series in Milwaukee, and he never left.

I thought so too

While he has indeed been a well-liked player, I think deep down, Brewer fans realize that this is NOT a case where a team simply cannot afford a player. This is not a case where he would have to accept a woeful contract to stay.

They offered him $100 million and it wasn’t close. In a blue collar state like Wisconsin, that speaks volumes.

For that, he is never going to have the full sympathy of many Brewer fans. As is his right, he is going to cash out to the highest bidder. However, don’t expect all Brewer fans to worship him as a beloved figure as a result.

He was a great player…but a great player that really had no desire to value the team and its fans over the almighty dollar (and for the record, few athletes are).

Maybe in 2012, I'll view it that way.

I doubt it will happen before New Year’s Day. The sting of losing to the Cardinals will be too painful until then. If the Cardinals win the World Series, it may not happen until Spring Training. They put it well on the broadcast right now, despite how good this season was, we’re still “behind the Cardinals”.

Had they lost to the Phillies, I probably would have gotten over it in a few weeks. It will take much longer with the Cardinals.
