Around the Playoffs: Ahhctober 9 Edition
News 'n Notes:
The Rangers made a small roster move prior to their game yesterday, dropping third catcher and lucky husband Matt Treanor and adding pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama.
Tigers' Left Fielder Delmon Young will miss the ALCS due to a strained oblique muscle. Young had hit .268/.302/.393 during the regular season and .316/.381/.789 in the ALDS.
Also due to a oblique strain, the Cardinals' Skip Schumaker is likely to miss the NLCS series. Schumaker had a .283/.333/.351 line during the season and a 1.400 OPS against the Phillies in the NLDS.
Yesterday's Game:
Texas won the first game of the ALDS 3-2 over Detroit through some rain delays. Former Brewer Nelson Cruz hit a solo home run and David Murphy tripled in a run and scored himself to lead the Rangers. CJ Wilson made it through 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and five walks. Five Rangers relievers pitched 4.1 shutout innings to preserve the lead. Justin Verlander gave up all three Rangers runs in four innings. Ramon Santiago went 3-4 for the Tigers (the only multi-hit game of the night) and scored a run, while Austin Jackson drove in a run and scored one himself.
Playoff Standings:
Texas 1, Detroit 0
Milwaukee 0, St. Louis 0
Today's Matchup:
The Brewers have Zack Greinke (16-6, 3.83 regular season; 0-0, 7.20 postseason) going up against Jaime Garcia (13-7, 3.56; 0-1, 3.86) and the Cardinals.

I think the following image needs to be added to the normal rotation of rally pics.

Hmmmm
It’s a high-risk, high-reward move. Put it this way, he looks like he could put up big numbers but he is completely untested at this level. Sure, I have as many questions about the value of Rally Bilo as most people (well, excepting those who are obsessed with Bilo for the simple reason they’ve never seen another woman) but at least I feel she’s a bit more dependable. Fundamentally, let’s not forget, play-off baseball is the same as regular season baseball and Rally Sulley is totally unproven…

Well, we could try him in a pinch-hitting role in the 5th inning of a game where the Brewers are down.
If he doesn’t work, then we’ve still got Lobster, Squirrel, Bilo, and the rest to go.
Speaking of Squirrel, are we sure that his loyalty still lies with the Brewers? He only helped the Cardinals to ensure home-field advantage for the Brewers, right?

Also, do we get to find out the probable matchup for the other game?
I guess I’ll have to make two extra mouse clicks to find out.

Do you guys know if your NLCS roster will be the same as the NLCS roster?
Cause the Cardinals will be making some moves on theirs. (Schumaker off/??? on)
Yes, it'll be the same.
No injuries, no real matchup changes.

Wow... I am behind on a number of things.
Before today, I still thought Matt Treanor* was playing for the Royals.

FanGraphs should consider a venue for a Gallery Night... they could even serve a cake with a Win Expectancy Chart of the 7/7/11 Brewers' game etched in the frosting, and 7-up. Oh, yeah - and t-shirts that say "SABR-Friday." I'm totally there.
