BCB Tracking Poll Shows Voters Favor Arbitration For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others
This week's poll was open from Monday at noon through Tuesday, and received 167 responses. Here are some of the notable results:
- Voters were strongly in favor of offering arbitration to Prince Fielder (93%), and would also approve of decisions to offer it to Francisco Rodriguez (64%) and Takashi Saito (65%)*.
- 78% of voters think the Brewers should not offer arbitration to Yuniesky Betancourt.
- Among the Brewers' other free agents, voters strongly favored bringing back Jerry Hairston Jr (93%), supported bringing back LaTroy Hawkins (65%) and voted strongly against bringing back Mark Kotsay (74%) and Craig Counsell (86%).
- 85% of voters are confident in Doug Melvin's ability to assemble a playoff team in 2012, but only 58% are confident in Ron Roenicke's ability to manage that team.
* - Saito has a clause in his contract preventing the Brewers from offering him arbitration, so this point is moot.
Side note: If you don't get the joke in the title, here's the context.

Yuni is dumb enough to reject arbitration
He still thinks he’s really good, and he’s never been anything but a starting SS. They actually might be able to sneak a pick out of him.
Still don’t want them to offer arby out of principle.
Calling Yuni dumb is pretty unfair
Based on his first MLB deal, I’d say his agent does a pretty good job handling contract matters.

Yuni was a really really good prospect coming up
Yuni is dumb or lazy. He may have an agent who can convince him that he’s not a good player.
We know for certain that he doesn’t listen to coaches when they tell him what he’s doing wrong.
He's not actually dumb or lazy.
He told me it was all just a “fakade”.

I am starting to suffer from Yuni-sickness again.
It happens when people, including myself, discuss Betancourt. Now I’m going to stop so I don’t develop too many of the symptoms!
FanGraphs should consider a venue for a Gallery Night... they could even serve a cake with a Win Expectancy Chart of the 7/7/11 Brewers' game etched in the frosting, and 7-up. Oh, yeah - and t-shirts that say "SABR-Friday." I'm totally there.

So 7% of people don't understand arbitration
That’s actually not bad, probably closer to 35% in OV.
Is Hairston a Type B FA this year?

Its probably more likely that those 12 voters were from VEB or evil BCB or the like, don't you think?

Probably
Or maybe they skimmed through the questions, saw a question about signing Prince and voted no without reading the full question.

Can someone please tell me...
the logic behind not offering prince fielder arbitration? Thought it would be 100%…
Maybe someone has a point I haven't seen
But I’d guess that we’ve identified 7% as the number of tracking poll voters who either don’t understand arbitration, came to troll, or both.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I'm still going to give people a chance to say they accidentally marked the wrong thing!
1.)I know I accidentally marked Greinke when I wanted Gallardo for a specific MVBrewer spot last week, and posted a clarification on the board after I noticed a “voted for Greinke” in my profile history.
2.)There’s always the possibility people were kind of intoxicated and in sort of a bad mood. *
3.) Or maybe they did not have glasses.
4.) Or — maybe a small portable device or phone with a bad screen caused a person to have to press the answer several times before it got through. My friend has a lot of trouble calling and/or texting sometimes with his crummy phone, because the send button won’t work, at first.
- = The item mentioning intoxication isn’t exactly okay with me, though. At OV, sometimes I thought I could smell beer through the screen. I wish this were a joke.
- * = Otherwise, I guess people were just trying to be mean or trying not to be funny.

So do you think it's possible someone could have been clumsy and pressed the wrong thing?
I’ve never owned a touch-screen phone, and had an iPod Touch but it was taken from my car. But I did not ever use it for social networking sites or sports blogs.
Hopefully at least some of the 12 voters just made a mistake!

as an individual who suffers from having large fingers and a touch screen
yes it is possible. BCB on my phone is a little tricky and when you vote, it doesnt bring up the results, it simply sends you to the top of the screen (at least thats what happens on mine) so it is sometimes difficult to realize what you are doing. which is why i stopped using my phone to vote.
You know what else I thought of?
The site was kind of funky for a few days. It logged me out sometimes, and then there was a lag in processing posts.
I thought about this a minute ago after I looked at my comments; It appears I did not actually get my vote through! Argghhhhh

I'd say the possibility of people being intoxicated
Probably exceeds the margin of error in this poll by a fair amount
So you're saying you've solved the mystery
and it was Dikembe behind the Cameron Garfield votes and the multiple identical BCB polls incident…

I would offer it to KROD
Simply because he’s made it clear that he wants to be a closer and Boras believes (and who know, he probably will) he can get a huge contract.
Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things.
Don't blame me
I voted for Kodos
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
