The Year in Video Highlights, Part 3: August/September

Apart from one special moment in October, this installment of my stroll down video lane is how I choose to remember the 2011 season - wherein we couldn't lose for a whole month and we took the NL Central's pole position. Packed with memorable scenes, both on the individual and team levels, August and September were the best 2-month period I've ever lived through as a sports fan.

August 6, 2011: Brewers 7, Pirates 5

Plush "shows off the pop gun" to end the game
Wow, remember this throw? Incredibly stupid move by Astros rookie J.B. Shuck to go for 3rd base, down 2 runs in the 9th, and Nyjer made him pay with this beauty of a play to gun him down

August 14, 2011: Brewers 2, Pirates 1 (10)

Braun's game-tying single in the 8th
Down 1-0 in the 8th, Braunie smacks a clutch single up the middle to tie it off Pittsburgh closer Joel Hanrahan, to set up...

August 15, 2011: Brewers 3, Dodgers 0

The Triple Play, et al
A triple play, 4 double plays, a throw home to nail a runner and an incredible diving catch on separate plays by Hairston in CF... it's hard to imagine a defense ever being more responsible for a shutout

August 20, 2011: Brewers 11, Mets 9

The Crew's 4-run ninth inning comeback
The Brewers had blown a 7-1 lead by giving up 8 runs to the Mets in the 7th & 8th innings, but then belched out a 4-spot in 9th snatch the game back



August 31, 2011: Cardinals 8, Brewers 3

Braun wipes out going for the inside-the-parker
The super-slo-mo is hilarious

September 3, 2011: Brewers 8, Astros 2

A game after ending a 5-game losing streak, with their magic number having stalled of late, Braunie enjoyed this game-winner


September 16, 2011: Brewers 6, Reds 3

Braun joins 30-30 club

September 17, 2011: Brewers 10, Reds 1

Gallardo's 13 K's (in 6 IP!)
We all remember Yo finishing the regular season with 3 starts where he struck out 12, 13, and 11. Here he is at his filthiest



September 23, 2011: BREWERS - NL CENTRAL CHAMPS - 4, MARLINS 1

Through most of September I was just anxious for October to arrive since I just assumed the playoffs were a foregone conclusion. So I didn't expect the night of 9/23/11 to feel so good...

K-Rod escapes a jam
K-Rod was excellent all year, but this was his standout appearance of the regular season. 2 clutch K's to get out of a big jam, preserving a 1-1 tie in the 8th inning of the eventual clincher

Including both the TV & radio calls, the Cubs closing out the Cards on the diamondvision, and the clubhouse celebration


Reactions from the team
It's making me happy re-watching this, but it's also making me fantasize about how it's gonna be when we win it all some day...
