"If it was purely about guaranteed money and guaranteed years, I’d be wearing blue and gold in Milwaukee," Rollins said. "There is a lure about Philly. I’ve been part of the foundation here. The fans have seen me grow up since I was 21. Do you leave that for money or do you stay home? This is where I want to be."

Also, I’m guessing it was more along the lines of, Rollins turns down Brewers offer hoping to get more from Philadelphia, Brewers and Cardinals sign SS and suddenly there is no market, Rollins takes what Philadelphia gives him.

Yup.
Melvin was pretty clear that he didn’t have time to wait around on Rollins. I’m pretty happy with Gonzalez / Ramirez anyways.

He's the Anti-Pujols.

Sort of.
But Pujols didn’t take the most money, either.

I think that depends on how you look at it...
…. but the total value of the Marlins contract was more, that’s true. He still walked away from 200 million (or more) to stay with the team and city he professed to love. If over $300 million over the course of a career isn’t enough to keep you in one city, then I think any claim of loyalty, love, or subsequent pain that comes with leaving is pretty much bullshit.

No, you're right.
I’m just saying that Pujols at least balanced money and going somewhere that he wanted to play. Maybe he like St. Louis fine, but also thought he might like California and L.A. The extra money helped influence his decision from one city he liked to another that he liked perhaps equally as well. Were it all about the money, he would have gone to Florida.
Besides, Rollins was making a decision based on a difference of, what, $3-4 million while Pujols was deciding on a difference of $30-50 million?
Bye Prince.
Packers: Working on a dynasty.
Blackhawks: Taking care of business as usual.
Badgers:Back-to-back B1G Champions!
Brewers: Move along, nothin' to see here.
Jimmy Rollins was a back-up dancer for Hammer...
FanGraphs should consider a venue for a Gallery Night... they could even serve a cake with a Win Expectancy Chart of the 7/7/11 Brewers' game etched in the frosting, and 7-up. Oh, yeah - and t-shirts that say "SABR-Friday." I'm totally there.

Hmmm
Well when I read that it makes me think of Fielder, who obviously has other priorities than staying with the “home” team and fans. I’m not vilifying the guy, but it has been 100% entirely his choice to leave. I’ll still look back with fond memories of when Prince was a Brewer, but you won’t see me cheering him on in the future.
Give me a break
Prince isn’t turning down $5 million to leave Milwaukee. It’s more like $50-$100 million…

No
I don’t care what the total amount you estimate it to be actually is. He could’ve stayed and made millions of dollars but he chose to leave to make more. Again, I’m not vilifying him, I know many people would make the same choice and that it is a significant amount of money. But he could have stayed and still made millions if more than money was really important to him. I’m not saying I hope he fails with another team, but I am definitely less of a fan. It is what it is.

100% would have left, including you.
This wasn’t his hometown. It was some random team that drafted him a few years ago. And while he was here he gave 110%. Probably more effort than any other player in the major leagues.

Gotta respect a guy whose willing to take less and stick with a place he likes. No matter what the reasons we are speculating about I can't hate on a guy staying with the team he came up with.
As nice as it would have been to have him. Still I think the Brewers are better off. He would have been way better at SS and Gonzales but I think Gonzales at SS and Rameriez at 3B is better than Rollins at SS and McGhee at 3B or Green.
