Apparently he's not retiring after all.

Double agent.
Your mission, 00JEd: Steal as much playing time as possible from Colby Rasmus.
Ryan Braun: He loves it. -- Four pitchers in history with 8.5+ WAR and <250 IP seasons: Greg Maddux (age 29), Pedro Martinez (age 28), Roger Clemens (age 27), Zack Greinke (age 25).
Hope this takes playing time away from Rasmus.
In reality, I don’t anticipate him making the team.

TLR is going to run that team into the ground this year
I dont know what his contract status is, but I wouldnt be surprised at all to see him alienate half the clubhouse with this thing regarding Rasmus, and then have the fans turn on him.
TLR's contract
He has a contract through this season with a mutual option next year.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
whatza
mutual option? either one says “yes” and he’s the manager/gets paid? or both have to say yes?
in which case, why wouldn’t one say “no” so they could re-negotiate a different rate?
Player mutual options are rarely exercised for that reason.
The player’s value typically increases or decreases over the year, so one side feels like they’re getting a poor deal and says no.
I’m not sure what the exercise rate is for managers, though. I’d guess it’s higher.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I think both have to agree
I guess if both feel that the option amount is “fair” they’d both agree, but somehow I don’t think that happens very often (if at all).

signing bonus at the end of the contract
that’s what it’s like, cause they always have a buyout, so the player says no, gets a niiiiiiiiice check (think about it, 100K is more than you probably make even if it’s piddly in MLB terms), then they’re just a normal free agent
Not sure if mutual options have a buyout
particularly ones for managers.
It wouldn’t matter for TLR… he’d get a managing gig someplace else pretty easily if he wanted to.

The Cardinals are looking for a veteran presence on their bench
They need to make that a major league contract before Edmonds gets a competitive offer from Melvin.
I know he had a postive UZR in center last year
But I am kind of excited to have him and the Berkman in the same outfield at the same time.

He could also barely move by the end of the season.
I think I saw him rounding the bases in a wheelchair at one point when he was on the Reds.

Can you imagine Holliday, Edmonds and Berkman in the OF at the same time?
The gaps are wide open fellas!
Hot Stove
Rosenthal said on hot stove that he would be shocked if edmonds makes the cardinals. he talked with him last year after the reds season and said edmonds injury was so bad he couldn’t even walk across the field. He didn’t think edmonds would be full recovered to add much to the cardinals.

I don't think there's many people
that WOULDN’T be shocked if he made the team
