Erick Almonte and Jeremy Reed have made the Opening Day roster. Cruz cleared waivers and will start the season in Nashville.

Not totally sure what this means for Corey Hart

It sounds like he won’t be ready for Opening Day, so if he’s on the DL our outfielders will be Braun, Gomez, Morgan, Kotsay, and Reed. I’d assume Reed gets the boot once Hart comes back.

Glad to see ALmonte make the team

I think that he offers a bit more to the PH role than Cruz would have (who really was a 2nd version of Counsell).
I am little bit more surprised that they went with Reed over Boggs but since when Hart comes back either of them would probably been dropped I doubt it is going to make much of a difference.

It's strange for a different reason, though:

Boggs was on the 40 man and out of options, so the team had to DFA him to go elsewhere.

Reed wasn’t on the 40 man, so a spot will have to be cleared for him – presumably by DFA’ing Boggs and sacrificing some org depth.

Now that's great tasting chicken!

If Reed had been the one to miss out

Would he have gone straight to AAA or would he of been able to become a FA or have to clear waivers 1st?

Quote from Reed about moving so often

“Like, we have a leased car right now that is up on April 13 in Washington, from when I played with Seattle. What do we do with that?”

I think I agree with that

He’s pretty limited in terms of positions, and if he doesn’t hit well in PH spots, he probably won’t be around real long.

How can you even compare the two?

Kotsays got all that veteran leadership.

Maybe Almonte has grit.

Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.

Doesn't he spell his name 'Erick'?

The extra consonant must count for some grit.
