BCB Tracking Poll Shows Record High Approval For Doug Melvin
This week's poll was open from Monday at noon until Tuesday afternoon, and received 230 responses. Here are some of the notable results:
- Nearly all participants are on board with Doug Melvin and his major offseason moves. Melvin's approval rating is at a record-high 91%, the Zack Greinke trade was approved by 92% of voters and 99% approved of the Marcum deal.
- Ron Roenicke opens the 2011 season with an 81% approval rating, and just one voter disapproving.
- 96% of voters think the Brewers can make the playoffs with their current personnel.
- Recent moves have been somewhat less popular. Only 64% of voters approve of the decision to trade for Nyjer Morgan, and even fewer (42%) approve of the decision to acquire Sergio Mitre. With that said, approving voters had at least a plurality in both cases.

Apparently Melvin felt
like he got a mandate after the Greinke/Marcum deals, and used it to get Mitre and Morgan without it really affecting anyones opinions of him, even though they happened far more recently. Interesting.

Makes sense
Even if you absolutely loved or hated the recent moves, they need to put into context with the bigger picture. I’d find it odd if someone’s opinion of a GM is swayed by the acquisition or trading of a 4th/5th OF and spot starter/bullpen pitcher.

I find it odd that the Marcum deal is more favorable than the Greinke one
Is it that Greinke is injured to start the season? The giving up of Escobar/Cain? The inclusion of YunE6? A combination?
I think I was the undecided on the Marcum trade, but I may have been a no.
I think it's a combination of all those things that you mentioned.
Marcum only cost us one minor leaguer (granted it was our top prospect), while Greinke cost us one (possibly two) starters, which just adds to the hate of the Betancourt and Gomez critics.
