Stat Of The Day: CC's Record Is Safe

If you haven't already heard, Yovani Gallardo wasn't able to provide a fitting encore today for Tuesday's complete game. In his next start after shutting out the Braves, Gallardo was only able to complete five innings against the Cubs, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out just two.

Since Miller Park opened in 2001, Brewer pitchers have thrown 55 complete games. Only one pitcher, though, has gone the distance in back to back starts:

Pitcher Consecutive CGs
CC Sabathia 3
52 others 1

Sabathia completed three games in a row between July 13 and 23 of 2008, in his second, third and fourth starts as a Brewer. Here's a closer look at the outings:

Date Opponent IP H R ER BB K
7/13/2008 Reds 9 8 2 2 1 9
7/18/2008 Giants 9 4 1 1 0 10
7/23/2008 Cardinals 9 3 0 0 2 7

In the first of those games, Sabathia also hit a home run in a 3-2 win. He would go on to record seven complete games in 17 regular season starts.

Before Sabathia, the last Brewer starter to pitch back to back CGs was Scott Karl in 1996.

If anyone on this team can break CC's record.

It’s Chris Narveson.

Greinke's going to have 30 in a row, fwiw.

Ryan Braun: He loves it. -- Four pitchers in history with 8.5+ WAR and <250 IP seasons: Greg Maddux (age 29), Pedro Martinez (age 28), Roger Clemens (age 27), Zack Greinke (age 25).

Wrong!

You seem to be forgetting he’s a Brewer through at least next season. Why be so conservative?

Brewers, I'm planning on sending you the bill for the heart disease you'll eventually give me. Packers, you're on notice.

I think I was happier when

CC pitched a complete game and then the very next day Ben Sheets pitches a complete game… Man those two were unstoppable together, until Sheets got hurt that is…

I really miss Sheets I know he was a screw up who couldn’t keep himself in shape but damn if he didn’t have some of the best stuff I have ever seen in person, right up there with CC when he was healthy (sheets that is).

Better than CC, when he was at his best.

Such a shame that he was so unlucky with injuries in his career.

When

Did Sheets not get hurt? I wonder how much he cost the team in medical over the years
