Week One Recap
Misery Loves Company (405.3) defeated Noah's Traveling All-Stars (394.6)
Injuries and injuries and injuries. I had, by far, the highest scoring player of the week for any team in Jered Weaver, whose 78.5 points eclipsed Dan Harens 52.5. Unfortunately, I also had many key players hit the DL for most or the entirety of the matchup. The players I missed: Zack Greinke, Ubaldo Jimenez, Evan Longoria, Jair Jurrjens, Brian Matusz, and Erick Aybar. If even one of those first three were healthy, I would have crushed sjlee. I do admit, my offense was underwhelming with 28 point David Ortiz leading the way. Meanwhile, Misery had a beautiful 40 point week from Carlos Quentin, along with strong performances from other offensive players like Shane Victorino, Adrian Gonzalez and Jose Bautista. He also had a great couple starts from Roy Oswalt. Injury this victory, sjlee, I'll destroy you in the rematch.
Mitch Stetter Moonbounce (495.4) defeated Tomato Tabata (460.9)
This was out matchup of the week, and it was a pretty good one. Tomato Tabata was all about the pitching as he had six pitchers with at least 33.1 points this week and three more over ten. Correspondingly, his offense was pretty weak with just Troy Tulowitski and Yunel Escobar scoring over 20 points. Mitch Stetter Moonbounce provided a more balanced attack with big weeks from Edwin Jackson (51+), Tim Lincecum (39+), Mariano Rivera (34+) and Tim Hudson (41+) on the pitching side and nine offensive players over 20 points, including Gordon Beckham, who led the way with 38 points.
Miggy and the bottomofthe5th (529.3) defeated Trickle Down Fantasy (440)
Dikembe won this matchup pretty big thanks to a dominant offense that saw Paulo Konerko, Howie Kendrick, Miguel Cabrera, and Nelson Cruz all go over 40 points (Kendrick seriously has four home runs?) and five others go over twenty. His pitching wasn't bad, either, with Bronson Arroyo going over 40, Josh Beckett going over 30, and two others over 20. pjpaulus also had a great offense with Braun and Kemp over forty, two players over thirty, and five over twenty. Unfortunately, he only had three pitchers that managed to do anything worthwhile or he might have been able to make this matchup close.
The Microbrewers (578.6) defeated Bourn Identity (432.5)
In a big "fuck you" to the commissioner, brewcrewshrew scored far and away more points than anyone else in the premier league after last week being placed last in the inaugural power rankings. He scored over 80 points on three individual days! He only had four players score over 30 points (A-Rod, Billy Butler, Trevor Cahill, and Hiroki Kuroda--who scored over 40), but had ten other players over 20 points and garnered significant contributions from everyone else. brwrsfan39 couldn't withstand the onslaught, despite having Jaime Garcia go for 46+ points and three other pitchers well over 30. Joey Votto also had a big week. It also doesn't help when four of your pitchers account for nearly -40 points, including over -18 from Phil Hughes.
Sledgehammering Whippersnappers (438.2) defeated Vegetarian Donut Diet (437.7)
Easily the closest matchup of the week, it was a nailbiter as Acheron defeated thebrouhaha by just 0.5 points. Jose Tabata of all people was the best player of the week between the two teams as he contributed 47 points. This was close enough that one less RBI from Alex Gordon, one less single from Geovany Soto, one more strikeout from Ted Lilly would have swung the match the other direction. Wowzers.
I'm not just doing this by most points scored. You aren't going to score that many every week, you damn Microbrewers

MATCHUP OF THE WEEK
Mitch Stetter Moonbounce versus The Microbrewers: For the second straight week, Moonbounce is at the top of the power rankings, but the Microbrewers scored far and away the most points of any team in week one. This is the early chance for brewcrewshrew's team to prove it is a legitimate contender and not just an early fluke. This matchup could very well be for the number one spot in next week's power rankings.
