"Fielder wants to re-sign"
"I'm not sure. You never know. If they have this much to spend, you never know. I hope not," Fielder said. "I hope they have a little left for me, but this year, my contract's good for this year, I'm happy about it and ready to play baseball."

Well, sure.
I have no doubt that if the Brewers matched or came real close to the highest bids he’d choose to stay in Milwaukee.
fka "warwick5s"
"I hope they have a little left for me"
They did… it was 5 yrs/$100M and apparently it wasn’t “little” enough.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
maybe
for some reason he thinks he can get more going year-to-year
prob is aiming for 25 next year and 30 year after;)

If they can lock up Greinke and Marcum for multi-year deals
I wouldn’t be completely against paying Fielder on a year-to-year basis, but I have a hard time believing that Boras would let him.

why not?
more negotiated contracts probably means he gets a higher fee;)

I think Boras charges a flat percentage
so, he wouldn’t get any more money… just have to do more work.

I know its a video game and has nothing to do with real life
but I actually did this with Prince in OOTP in 2012. Signed him to a 1 year 27 million dollar deal… The Brewers got to the NLCS that year fyi…
WOW~!
Maybe that’s all the Brewers need to do to get the WS.

That was my thought as well
Guess that wasn’t enough…
I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful
In fairness
that was a different 5year/$100M when it was first offered than it would be if it were offered now. The organization has made a very public change in attitude since then.
Brewers, I'm planning on sending you the bill for the heart disease you'll eventually give me. Packers, you're on notice.
BLACKHAWKS I LOVE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Moments in Sporting History: Apr. 6, 2011- Carlos Gomez takes a four pitch walk
Fairness to who?
When Fielder rejected their offer and let his agent float out the 8 yr/$200M number, the organization moved on.
I seriously doubt their original offer would still be available. Marcum and Greinke will be the next two that they’ll try to sign to multi-year deals.

Can we do a frontloaded deal for Prince so just as Braun is getting expencive Prince is getting inexpencive?
braun's 2nd deal is frontloaded
but the current deal is backloaded
so, I guess midloaded?

No
Next year’s payroll already has over $56M in contracts across six players. After paying pre-arb and arb players as well as any FA pickups, there isn’t much left to front load any kind of deal.

I've got us at about $73 Million, needing a 1B, SS, Bench, and a few bullpen guys
We could fill the bullpen for cheap from within, but we would have no money for a SS or any bench players. And knowing how Melvin loves to spend on the bullpen, I can’t see it happening.

If we're going off this season, I'll take Wolf's 2.64 ERA for $13.5 million or whatever.
Ryan Braun: He loves it. -- Four pitchers in history with 8.5+ WAR and <250 IP seasons: Greg Maddux (age 29), Pedro Martinez (age 28), Roger Clemens (age 27), Zack Greinke (age 25).

I'll take Estrada's what 3 something ERA and Prince over just Wolf and his 2.64 ERA
Just because I am honestly a little worried what is going to happen to Braun’s production when he doesn’t have Prince protecting him in the lineup, Braun is obviously a great hitter but him being a phenomenal hitter and not just a very good hitter you could argue is due to him hitting in front of Prince.
Protection in the lineup
Prince doesn’t seem to have that problem

Yeah, that would be my estimate as well with guesstimates for arb and pre-arb players
I didn’t include any of them because I could see some of them (like Marcum) getting a multi-year deal.

Actually, a 1-year deal makes a lot of sense
For both the Brewers and for Prince. He gets a good salary and gets to try free agency in a year when he isn’t competing with Albert Pujols, and the Brewers get one of the best offensive players in the game for one of his ‘prime’ years without committing to his post-‘prime’ future.
There'll be more than one team looking
for a first baseman who can afford to pay $25M+ per year on a multi-year contract.
