On this day in 2004 Chad Moeller entered play against the Reds as a .200 hitter, but left a hero. In a 9-8 victory against the Reds, the Brewer catcher hit for the cycle. The triple was his only three-bagger of the season, and the home run was one of just five.
Of course, we've talked about Moeller a fair amount before. Last year TheJay celebrated the anniversary with a post containing all kinds of details about the unlikely company Moeller finds himself in. And earlier this week the game came up in a series preview: Bill Hall won it with a pinch hit home run in the greatest performance against the Reds in Brewer history.
With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to:
- 2009 Brewer Frank Catalanotto, who turns 37.
- 1985 Brewer Brian Giles, who turns 51.
- Madison native Charlie Chech, who would have turned 133. Chech played four major league seasons between 1905 and 1909 with the Reds and two other teams.
