With all due respect to Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum, Yovani Gallardo will make a strong case for consideration as the Brewers' best pitcher if he keeps working like he did tonight. Despite striking out only two, he pitched a complete game shutout against one of the NL's best teams tonight to get the Brewers their first win.
On Thursday, Gallardo needed 101 pitches to finish six innings. Tonight he was much more efficient, pitching a complete game with 111. It was the 24th time in his career he's thrown at least 110 pitches in a game, but in eight of those instances he didn't even finish seven innings:
