Seems kind of dumb

We didn’t have to complete anything for at least a couple more months. I also thought most times the PTBNL was picked from a list of players who were decided on at the time of the trade.

Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.

Once the Rule 5 draft came and went, I assumed it was cash

They were just waiting to see if Villy made the Jays 25 man roster to determine how much money was sent over

I still think it's possible the Brewers had first dibs on their spring training DFA's.

And when nothing of interest came along, they took cash instead.

I’m curious what the parameters were (not that it really matters). Found this from April 2nd buried in a JS notes section. Not sure if he was actually undecided once the season starts or what the deal was.

The Brewers still have not completed the deal that sent reliever Carlos Villanueva to Toronto on Dec. 3. Rather than take the “player to be named later,” general manager Doug Melvin said he might take cash considerations.

“We’ll go back (to Milwaukee) and look at it,” said Melvin.
