Brewers OPS the day after being plunked
Somebody in Saturday's game thread asked me about what Ryan Braun's OPS was the day after he got hit by a pitch. Then I got distracted by Kevin Youkilis breaking the Red Sox hbp record and never got back to answer the question. So, then it turned into a post on my site about offense the day after being plunked, which you can go read if you want, but here's the answer to the Ryan Braun question, in the form of the OPS of every Brewer from the beginning of 2005 to May 23, 2011, with a minimum of 10 plate appearances the day following an HBP:
J.J. Hardy - 1.250 (14 PA)
Prince Fielder - .955 (242 PA)
Geoff Jenkins - .906 (110 PA)
Ryan Braun - .877 (123 PA)
Rickie Weeks - .824 (278 PA)
Mike Cameron - .801 (26 PA)
Corey Hart - .681 (109 PA)
Alcides Escobar - .636 (11 PA)
Jason Kendall - .628 (76 PA)
Casey McGehee - .615 (13 PA)
Brady Clark - .612 (93 PA)
Craig Counsell - .607 (30 PA)
Carlos Lee - .583 (12 PA)
Damian Miller - .535 (20 PA)
Bill Hall - .411 (20 PA)
Tony Graffanino - .390 (21 PA)
Carlos Gomez - .258 (12 PA)
In that span of time Prince Fielder ranks 9th, and Braun ranks 19th in the league wide OPS standings for the day following a plunk, with minumum of 100 ABs on those days. And Rickie Weeks is the only player from 2005 to yesterday to get hit by 13 pitches on the day after he got hit by a pitch.

I think I know what you meant here, but it reads like he got 13 HBPs the day after he got plunked once. Damn! They were headhunting on Rickie that day!
that Would be a record.
Sometimes it’s hard to phrase these things without being repetitive or using 1,495 words.

This made me curious about who has the longest HBP streak
It appears to be Carlos Quentin, who was plunked in six straight games in 2008. Nobody else even has five.
yes
I was very excited about that time http://www.plunkeveryone.com/?m=200808&paged=2
Quentin actually took two games off in the middle of that streak, but it was still amazing. He got 4 straight from one team in there too – the Red Sox, all 4 games of a 4 game series.

This is screaming for an Anger Index or Revenge Index
OPS_day-after-HBP / OPS_total
or better yet
OPS_day-after-HBP / OPS_day-after-not-HBP
Which players elevate their game after a plunking and which ones curl up in a corner licking their wounds. I’m not sure if you have the full play-by-play, but that could also be done on a PA after HBP basis. That would be more in line with a Revenge Index.
More nice work.
wait...
are you saying players would be mad about being hit by pitches and want to hit the ball even more? That might conflict with my view of the universe… or don’t you remember the game when Jason Kendall charged John Lackey for throwing a curve ball that Didn’t hit him? That was before his Brewers days.

You'd have to make sure that the day after OPS is against the same team
If you want a revenge index.
also...
I’m not sure about using OPS because walks aren’t very revengey, and getting hit by more pitches isn’t really in the same spirit either. maybe just slugging pct would be better.

Yet another reason why we should never have traded JJ Hardy
Thanks Plunk Everyone!
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

As a former plunkee...
I love this stuff. I got hit multiple times per week on average in high school. (Partially because I was on top of the plate, partially because i spun in place instead of hopping back away from pitches inside.)
Personally, my teammates loved that I didn’t mind taking taking HBPs to get on base. I doubt I would have had much of a Revenge Index, since I saw it as being a skill of mine rather than getting mad at the pitcher.

That wouldn't fly in professional baseball
You at least have to make an attempt to move out of the way before you get awarded a base.

What do you think Rickie and Prince do everytime they get hit?
They spin in place and take in in the back, the elbow pad, or the back of the arm. The spin is enough for the ump to say, ‘Hey, he tried to avoid it.’

It's really a subjective call...
I remember Zaun getting plunked last season and not getting awarded 1B because the umpire ruled that he could’ve gotten out of the way.
