Milwaukee Brewer All Star Thread
Wanted to start a discussion on potential Brewer All Stars to this point. As it stands today I think 4 will get in with +1/-1 going either way. How close do you feel my list is?
Rickie Weeks - I think Rickie will get in both for having a pretty good year again this year and also as a beneficiary of a weak year for his position. With Brandon Phillips being the only man inbetween him and the starting spot, I'd consider Weeks very close to a lock ATM.
Ryan Braun - Easy one here. He is a potential NL MVP candidate and looks very good to make the team and start again in LF.
Johnathan Lucroy - In my opinion Lucroy is both one of (if not the) most deserving player to make the team and also the most likely to get snubbed. With a decent amount of big, established names at the position, I can easily see the second year Brewer not making the team, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't. It should be taken into consideration that Lucroy has been able to put up gaudy numbers for his position at a place in the lineup where he gets no help whatsoever. Lucroy's numbers rival that of Brian McCanns and Yadir Molina and I expect him to be the third Cather in for the NL this year.
Shaum Marcum - Marcum has done everything we have asked of him and more, stepping in as Staff Ace while Yoga and Zack tailored their stuff. In the CY Young discussion for the NL, Marcum seems a strong vote for the All Star Squad.
---
Prince Fielder - I am probably one of the few, if not only, people that does not think Fielder will be an All Star this year. With four players already seeming likely All Stars at their position, 1B is a name filled list that could easily see Prince booted. Hopefully I am wrong and his RBI and HR numbers will be enough to get him in again, worse case scenario though Prince has a big chip on his shoulder for the second half (which I wouldn't mind in the least).
Bullpen - You could make an arguement for a few relievers but I claim too much ignorance of the field to make an educated guess with any of them.
Others - Depending how the next month or two plays out cases could be made for Wolf or Yoga but much remains to be seen. And what about TONY PLUSH?
Who's on your team?

With you on Weeks and Braun
But not Lucroy. There are a handful of players more deserving at the C position than he.
I wonder if Marcum gets the player vote since he hasnt been seen by the entire league yet. at worst he would be a prime candidate for that 32nd spot.
One is 1. A couple is 2. A few is 3-7.
A handful is how many? 5? I’d like to see their names, please.
True
Ianetta currently has the highest fWAR among all catchers in the NL.
Granted, the All-Star game is a popularity contest… and most voters probably don’t pay attention to WAR.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
most voters don't know what fWAR is
hell, I don’t know what it is.

FanGraphs WAR
versus bWAR which is Baseball-Reference WAR. The two sites calculate WAR differently.

According to Fangraphs today
OPS
.896 Hernandez
.848 McCann
.835 Iannetta
.824 Molina
.824 Lucroy
Neither Hernandez, Iannetta, or Lucroy even have enough at bats to qualify right now for league leaders in OPS. Great conversation starter, but McCann and Molina are clearly the two choices.

WPA
Lucroy – 0.80
Molina – 0.58
Ianetta – 0.57
Hernandez – 0.56
Buck – 0.47
…
McCann – 0.21
Ryan Braun: He loves it. -- Four pitchers in history with 8.5+ WAR and <250 IP seasons: Greg Maddux (age 29), Pedro Martinez (age 28), Roger Clemens (age 27), Zack Greinke (age 25).
Yep, I agree
Lucroy has played well. Just not enough at bats yet to be considered. Besides, most people that vote look at name first, stats second. Lucroy would have a good chance in the last man vote. Assuming that Marcum isn’t up for vote too.

I don't think pitchers are voted at all
even for last man.
If I didn't know better, I'd think the Brewers were a halfway decent baseball team...
Braun, Weeks and maybe Marcum.
Howard and Pujols will go ahead of Prince.
McCann and Molina will go ahead of Lucroy.
Yeah that's what I see,
except Gallardo is pitching like a stud right now, if he keeps getting W’s (7 right now) and lowering his ERA (3.89) he could be in.

they usually take 3 1Bs
though with no other Marlin sticking out and Josh Johnson on the shelf, it will probably be Gaby Sanchez over Prince.

The coaches may select Prince over Votto based on power stats. Definitely will be in over Howard.
I see Braun, Fielder, and Weeks making the team. And one of our SP will make it, most likely Marcum.
