With two down and two on, Roenicke opted to go with Mark Kotsay as the potential tying run instead of George Kottaras, who homered in both games he started since returning from the minors.
Mired in a 0-for-15 skid, Kotsay grounded out on the first pitch from Farnsworth to end the game.
"George was on deck," said Roenicke. "It’s just which guy you want to hit first."
Obviously, Roenicke wanted Kotsay to bat first but he never explained why.

Here's an explanation: RRR is dumb.
If there was 1 out, ok . I still wouldn’t agree with the reasoning but I’ll grant that there is some latitude for difference of opinion there.
With 2 outs, it’s flat out indefensible.
Also:
Despite the hip strain that shortened his previous outing to one inning in Boston, Marcum was given the start for what manager Ron Roenicke had decided would be a shortened outing. Marcum was pulled after three innings, yet was allowed to bat in the bottom of the third. Roenicke said he didn’t want to use a bench player at that point or another pitcher to bat.
"I asked the trainers if the swinging was OK and they were find with the swinging," said Roenicke. "It was the third inning. I didn’t want to use one of our bench guys.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
He did mention
That he didn’t want Gallardo to go out there cold and hurt himself swinging.

Can't really disagree with that.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
I'm ok with that aspect
Completely avoiding a PH, not so much.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
Who do you want to hit first?
For future reference, the answer is Kottaras, dumbass.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
I would've preferred anyone that is not the Kotsucker
that is my new favorite Brewer nickname since the Nyjerian Nyghtmare didn’t stick.

I like DPR.
Short for Dread Pirate Roenicke. Kostay pinch hitting for Lucroy, inconceivable.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
And wtf Tom?
If you know that people want to know why Ron batted Kotsay first, you are in a position that you can get that answer. Why didn’t you?

Rec'd
because things should not be this way. If RR likes to engage in a healthy debate, would it be out-of-line for a beat-writer to do this? I’m so tired I can’t remember how to say “integrity” but spelled it correctly.
Ron seems to look at empty stats without visualizing how things may play out. Erghhhh. Arggg.

I understand why people are angry, but don't direct it at TH
They can’t force RR to answer the questions. It was certainly asked.
Get a ife broseph
I was still pretty ticked when I wrote that yesterday
But looking at TH’s linked post, it didn’t read like anyone did ask RR why. You are right that RR can’t be forced to answer questions, but I didn’t get the vibe that TH tried very hard for an answer to that.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
TH isn't going to flat out say he asked the question and RR refused to answer it
He’s also not going to keeping asking the same question if RR doesn’t answer it the first time.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
This just occurred to me
What if Runnin Ron is putting Notsay in position to fail so Doug has to get rid of him quicker, thus doing us all a favor?
I doubt it and just find him to be a moron, but what if..

Best to get these things cleared up early
And not to let them linger in a pennant race. It’s possible, I suppose.

I'd put the odds of that right behind the Illuminati being responsible for Kotsay's playing time.
"PLUSH ALERT: THERE WAS AN UNTUCKING AT FENWAY!"
Not even possible
roenicke has shown time and time again that he thinks Kotsay is a good player. This is why Kotsay pinch hit today and why he will be the DH again next week. Its time to face the facts; this guy is in way over his head.

Again?
IIRC, Kotsay has never been the DH in any games this season.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
No but he let him play in the field while others were the DH.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
Well leaving Boggs on the bench at every opportunity
did somehting to show DM he didn’t want that dude on the roster. So i dont think so.
Can we all agree that this was
both an idiotic call and something Ron’s shown a proclivity for thus far?
"If we want to sign a Type A free agent, we would lose a second-round pick, but we don't have a way to get picks back. Our whole Draft process needs to be redone."
~Doug Melvin
This is by far
the worst call he’s made this season.
Nothing else even comes close.

I’m guessing it’s on MLB.com too, if someone wants to link that.
Dear Ron Roenicke

I am too drunk to taste this chicken.

I think I have a problem with Tim Dillard
… because a neat trick that worked in Miami with the GB/5th infielder should not mean anything.
I’m an optimist, by the way! I still think RR can learn from this. He doesn’t like to be wrong, though, so I hope he’ll talk with someone who really, really disagrees with him.
Also, I’m really curious about Narron and Kranitz…Iorg and maybe Dale? Eddie’s glasses?

Is there any chance
that Ron is related to Ned?
Celebrating the addition of Greinke and mourning the loss of my man crush Cain
Must be
its incredible that we just cant get this thing right. First we hire clueless Ned and then Macha who had no personality. This past offseason we interviewed Bobby Valentine who would have been perfect but instead Melvin hires Roenicke who showed he was in over his head during his first press conference.

So tired of hearing you prat on about Bobby V.
It’s not going to happen anytime soon, probably ever. He hasn’t had an MLB job in about 10 years, why do you think that is?

We shouldn't have trusted the MP concession stands when they were selling discounted Nedwurst.
Applying pop culture to Brewers discussions since 2009, earning the nickname of "Our Little Abed".
Roenicke is terrible
All I know is that this guy may very well cost us a playoff spot. I do put a lot of the blame on Melvin for hiring him and letting him have a say on the bottom of the roster. Melvin needs to wake up and improve this roster.
The fact that we have better options in AAA than several of our current roster is something that makes infuriates me. Boggs, Gamel and Green are all way better options than Kotsay and one of the three shortstops. Green really should be replacing McGehee who has been brutal offensively and defensively.
Neither Boggs, Gamel nor Green can play SS
If you remove one of Betancourt, Counsell or Wilson, you end up with only one backup IF.
Also, I’m not sure how well Gamel and Green will hit if they’re not playing consistently. It would probably still be better than Kotsay is right now, but it won’t do them any favors to sit them on the bench with only a handful of ABs each week.

I know, he's not a viable option as a starter or even a primary backup
but in a pinch, they could stick him there to finish up a game.
