Gallardo, Hart, Morgan, Weeks or Wolf: Who Will Be Brewer of the Week?
You know it's been a good month when a 3-3 week comes off as a disappointment. We've still got some pretty solid candidates for Brewer of the Week:
Yovani Gallardo pitched eight shutout innings with just four hits and a walk while striking out five against the Giants on Sunday. He finished May with a 2.25 ERA over 40 innings.
Corey Hart missed two games and left one early due to illness, but still hit .333/.375/.600 with a double and a home run over 16 PAs in his four appearances.
Nyjer Morgan returned to the lineup on Friday and has started five of the six games since, hitting .389/.450/.611 with two doubles, a triple and a stolen base.
Rickie Weeks had three multi-hit games this week while hitting .320/.357/.600 with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. He's started every game this season and has only been lifted early twice.
Randy Wolf held the Giants to one earned run (two overall) on just three hits and two walks over 7.1 innings on Saturday, striking out three. He has a 1.83 ERA over his last three starts.

I voted Morgan.
Not because his line was the best, but because his presence (and production!) in the lineup has come at the expense of Mark Kotsay in center…now that’s a most valuable player.

It honestly seems like
if Plush keeps producing, the lineup should be
Weeks
Plush
Braun
Fielder
Hart
McGehee/Lucroy
McGehee/Lucroy
Waste of space
Pitcher
right?

Against RHP, yes.
Hart is a far superior hitter to Morgan against LHP. Morgan probably should almost never face LHP.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
So should we do away with fixed lineup spots for the 2-hole?
And play handedness for the rest of the season?

In CF, yes, 100%.
Flip Hart and Morgan up or down the order based on the starter.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
If this was a monthly award, it goes to Gallardo
But it’s hard to give a weekly award to a starter who didn’t pitch 2 games.
