Win Expectancy Graph And Star Of The Game Voting
For once, a Brewer game was over early on the road and it wasn't because their starting pitcher melted down in the first.
The Brewer bats struck early and often tonight against Diamondbacks starter Barry Enright, connecting for three home runs in the first inning to stake Yovani Gallardo to a 5-0 lead before he even took the mound for the first time. He struggled a bit at times tonight but allowed just one earned run (two others were unearned) on four hits over six innings, walking one and striking out six.
Meanwhile, the Brewers scored five in the first, one in the third on a booming homer by Rickie Weeks, and three more in the sixth on an HBP and two walks with the bases loaded to put the game out of reach. Yuniesky Betancourt had two of the five Brewer homers in the game, picking up the first multi-homer game of his career. Prince Fielder was the only Brewer starter held hitless: He went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts. In addition to going 1-for-3, Nyjer Morgan was hit by pitches twice.
Craig Counsell made a pinch hit appearance in the seventh inning and grounded out. He's now 0-for his last 33.

9-15 at the plate tonight, anytime you get that production from the bottom of the order (or anywhere in the order for that matter) you’ll score a lot of runs. good win tonight, 3-3 on the brutal road trip so far

Settle down, chief

Yuni MVP !
I knew he could do it
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
trade him while he's hot!

Shhhhhh!!
The road woe gods will hear you.. and back to normal
I'm torn
satisfying road win, but there’s the fact that Barry Enright is my favorite active non-Brewer…but it’s not like i don’t expect him to give up home runs, I mean, that’s what he does, why did Arizona draft a fly ball pitcher?
He my favorite non-Brewer too at the moment.
I appreciate his help in getting our offense going.
For your health!

Sure, it counts, but honestly...

So when Yuni goes on an 0-10 streak we can say that it's just an outlier result and we can ignore it?

We don't see the Pirates until august 22nd
Wonder where both teams will be sitting in the standings then… Could the pirates be for real and the season finale at Miller Park against them be for division champs!
I dont
I don’t want to start regressing against them that last week. They need to be out of it by then.

Me neither
Not so much that we’d regress, but if their rotation continues to pitch like it has, they won’t be easy games.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Let's do Counsell a favor
And cut him off before he has a chance to break a major league record. I love the guy and I think he’s had a very respectable tenure with our team but this is not the season to keep a guy on board for the sake of sympathy. We have a pennant to win.
Counsell should do himself a favor and retire..
.. I just don’t think he has anything left in the tank. He’s had a great career with several highlights and no one would fault him for hanging up his glove at this point. If he does retire, we should hire him on as some sort of coach or adviser for the team.. I’m sure he can turn all of his knowledge and experience into a pretty good coaching career if he chose to.
He's still the only quality defensive glove they have on the left side of the infield
He needs to be on the roster regardless of his bat. If they get another shortstop, then there can be some talk of Counsell “voluntarily” retiring. Until then, he still has a place on the roster no matter how anemic his bat is.

When was the last time an MLB player retired mid-season on a playoff contending team?
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Jamie Moyer?
I don’t think its unusual, but usually involves injury. If Counsell were to retire, I’d guess it was because of an “injury.”
Get a ife broseph
Brewers need The Counselor
