Royals trade Wilson Betemit to Tigers for two minor leaguers
Cross him off the list, I guess.

Neither is even an honorable mention on John Sickels' top 20 Tigers' prospects list for 2011.
And he says their system is very thin.
Cruz has a 3.11 ERA in A ball, pitched in 22 games (10 starts)
Rodriguez is a catcher in A+, hitting .283/.325/.354, easily his best professional season thus far.
Seems like Milwaukee could have had Betemit for a pittance. The one comment I saw on Bless You Boys (Tigers SBNation) seemed pretty darn pleased with the trade.
Maybe, but not necessarily
Both prospects are young and out of the Dominican. Without looking it up, I’d guess the Royals’ DR scouts had seen those guys long ago and had some familiarity with them. They may not have had similar guys they liked out of the Brewers system, or at least weren’t as familiar with some of the low level guys.

weird that the Royals would trade within their division/Brewers couldn't top that offer
maybe Melvin just decided he didn’t want Betemit anymore. I keep reading on JSOnline (I know, I know, first mistake right there) and the users there want to trade Gamel for Carroll. haha

I don't know why the royals would be opposed to trading in division
It’s not like Betemit’s a superstar or anything, and the Royals have tons of infield talent coming up, they really had no place for him.
Ain't that some shit
Seeing the peanuts that are getting thrown aroun for very capable SS, I am going to be very disappointed if the Brewers stay put

Betemit is not a "very capable SS."
At best, he’d be a small upgrade at third.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I guess I would have welcomed Betemit if he cost nothing, but he is/was far from the best target out there.
Defensive downgrade, and his league average batting line this season (which, admittedly would be a huge upgrade for the Brewers) is propped up by an unsustainable BABIP.

Didn't like Betemit with us anyways
Would rather shoot for an upgrade at SS (Carroll/Furcal, B. Ryan, Bartlett)
This game is bigger than YOU or ME.
Without me, the game will go on...Without the game, I won't go on
I don't like FanShots like this.
I see the words “Royals trade Wilson Betemit…” and think that the Brewers just pulled off a trade, then I see the rest of it and realize that the Brewers team has made no change, it’s just a FYI.

If it’d been a Brewer deal, I would’ve led with “Brewers acquire ().” Otherwise, I’m burying the lede.

Makes sense.

Have to be about possible SS the Brewers can trade for, right?

RT @jcrasnick: The #Brewers have had some internal discussions about #Astros shortstop Clint Barmes.

He's having a decent year numbers-wise
I just hope we wouldn’t be getting the 2006 version, where he posted an OPS+ of 47 in over 500 PAs. If he could continue to post numbers like he’s done so far this season, he’s a definite upgrade over Yuni. He’d probably be more expensive than Furcal (assuming we’d be eating Furcal’s salary in the trade), but maybe less expensive than Carroll.
I'd be ecstatic with any of the three (maybe not so much Furcal) at this point.

Eh
Gotta fix 3rd first, I say.

You really think 3B is the bigger problem than SS?
I know Yuni’s battings been coming around, but he just doesn’t try out there. At least Mcgehee has some hustle.
I absolutely think 3B is the bigger problem.
God-awful offense, and God-Awful defense.
It’s not a MUCH bigger problem than SS, but it’s definitely the bigger problem. McGehee might “try” more than Yuni, but that just makes his results that much worse.

Yuniesky’s defense is substantially worse (McGehee actually has a positive UZR this season). They’re both big problems, but I give the edge to SS because at least there’s a glimmer of hope that McGehee can turn it around and is suffering from an abnormal BABIP relative to his career. Betancourt is just hopeless.

Agreed
Also, Yuni has always been a piece of shit, Mcgehee at least was a very productive player before this year. I’m willing to give Mcgehee much more leeway to suck than Yuni. Also, I think that it is much more important to have solid defense at SS than 3B.
But we're trying to win, I thought.
Not give people a pass for having a good 1.5 years before this year.

McGehee has zero range, Betancourt has zero range.
McGehee can’t field all the balls he gets to, neither can Betancourt.

I don't get why people
still think there’s a glimmer of hope that McGehee can turn it around. Have you watched any games yet this year?

I bet they had some internal discussions about Reyes too
And Furcal and Carrol and Hardy and …

Heyman reporting...
The Brewers have had internal discussions about who the hell took Gord Ash’s lunch from the fridge. He went to a really nice restaurant the night before, marked the box with his name, came back for lunch and it was gone. Causing friction from what Heyman has heard.
