my mind is blown
also, please note the effectiveness of the swedish chef. haven’t pulled him out yet this year, i think.
I'm going with the effectiveness of Kotsay appearing
He kills all rallies.
Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
I figured why not try him on the other team
He’s certainly effective for us

Seriously
I’m going to call MLB and give them my 50 point plan on why I would be a better broadcast option.
1-50 would read as follows: I am not Omar Minaya.
The Brewers at Miller Park: "ALL WE DO IS WIN, WIN, WIN NO MATTER WHAT"
The Brewers on the road: "all we do is lose, lose lose, no matter what..."
Omar
did MLB a favor by never signing any draft picks above slot so they hooked him up.

And apparently has been OK defensively at 3B

Didn't he come over from Philly in the Oswalt trade?
I thought he was supposed to be a #2-3 starter? That he had good stuff and endurance? When did he make a move to the pen?
You are thinking of JA Happ
Putz has been a reliever for as long as I can remember, back to his Mariners days
Not sure who you are think of
Putz was the closer for the Mariners for couple of years and then went to the Mets and White Sox after that
Putz on the DL
I think Hernandez is the interim closer?

Only real reason I don't like Kotsay in the 5-hole (other than the obvious)
is you go lefty lefty in a row.
We really need a quality right-handed bench/utility bat.
Better than Kotsay
but we know how the front office feels about him.

Gamels numbers in AAA this year, in a much larger sample size.
You can bring them down to account for better pitching in the majors, but right now he is the better hitter
Look at his #s vs. lefties.
and it gets much scarier, even in AAA.

Or his IP into triple digits
How long has it been since a reliever has pitcher over 100 innings?
Founder of the BCBCU - Est. 2011
Depends...
They’ve had a few relievers who had 100+ IP in a season, but they also had some starts along the way (e.g. Villy, McClung).
The last time they had a reliever with 100+ IP who didn’t have any starts was Chuck Crim (1989). He pitched in 76 games and had 117.2 IP.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Because of the severity of his injury last season

by Archibaldcrane on Jul 6, 2011 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions
True
But couple that with the fact that they weren’t sure if he was 100% back. You only have to see his stats last season to see how he’d do if he wasn’t 100%. No sense sending him out in a high leverage situation if he’s not 100%.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.

Greinke: "It’s not about the guacamole itself. I just don’t want to let them win."
If going forward
we switched the innings Loe has with the combined innings Hawkins and Saito will get, I’d be all for it. Loe gets more rest=pitches better, Hawkins/Saito pitch in high leverage situations, still don’t pitch that much and stay fresh.

WOW!
7. Players used metal bats in the Home Run Derby. The entire point of the derby is to see ridiculous players do ridiculous things. Seeing them do so with ridiculous implements only would add to the enjoyment factor.
Let’s be honest: The two greatest derbies of all time were 1999, when a juiced-up Mark McGwire was hitting balls to Brookline, and 2008, when Josh Hamilton was peppering the upper deck at Yankee Stadium. What did they have in common? Crazy-long home runs. Eventually, we get numb to the number. Bobby Abreu’s(notes) 24-homer barrage in the 2005 derby got monotonous. The prospect of mountain-clearing home runs whets anyone’s appetites, and if the performance enhancement comes from the bat, so be it.
Perhaps a bat company can pay a share of the players’ bonuses in the All-Star game to have its distinctive ping ring throughout the derby. It’s novel, and it may not work, but it’s surely worth a try when the derby has started to resemble the slam-dunk content in its ability to turn stale faster than frat-party beer.
In the absence of metal, the best way to bring life to the event is …
