Today In Brewer History: A Wrigley Wrout

Stay connected for news and updates

On this day one year ago, the Brewers put up an epic performance at Wrigley Field. Things were quiet for the first three innings, but the Crew exploded for five runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth en route to an 18-1 victory.

The Brewers connected for 26 hits in the game but only one homer: Casey McGehee hit a three run shot off Randy Wells in the fourth. Corey Hart (4-for-7), Ryan Braun (5-for-7), Prince Fielder (5-for-7) and Alcides Escobar (3-for-5) all had at least three hits in the game. The only Brewer position player who appeared in the game but didn't get a hit was Carlos Gomez: He entered the game as a pinch runner and was hit by pitches in each of his two plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Yovani Gallardo and three relievers held the Cubs to just one run on four hits, striking out 14 in the game.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to 2007-08 Brewer Joe Dillon. He turns 36.
