Fangraphs Win Expectancy Graph
Boxscore
Despite a leadoff home run by Emilio Bonifacio and a small comeback by the Marlins in the later innings, this game was never really in doubt. The Brewers scored three runs in the second inning, four in the third inning, and tacked on one more in the fourth for an 8-1 lead. The Marlins couldn't come back from that.
Chris Narveson went 6.1 innings with five hits, five walks, and five strikeouts. Overall, he gave up four runs, including two home runs.
The Brewers scored all nine of their runs with just two extra base hits: A solo homer from Ryan Braun and a Jerry Hairston double. Rickie Weeks was 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. George Kottaras was 2-4 with two RBI and a run.
The Cardinals beat the Cubs again with yet another Braves loss. With three games left, the Braves wild card lead is down to one.

I really think George is handsome...
And that’s a way to win, when you have a George in the appropriate match-up situation.
FanGraphs should consider a venue for a Gallery Night... they could even serve a cake with a Win Expectancy Chart of the 7/7/11 Brewers' game etched in the frosting, and 7-up. Oh, yeah - and t-shirts that say "SABR-Friday." I'm totally there.

The Cards are gonna win the Wild Card
they finish the season with Houston, Atlanta finishes with Philadelphia.

Phillie are not exactly playing that well at the moment
They are on a 2-8 run going into this last series.
Given how the Phillies Cards series went a little while ago
I think the Phillies have every incentive to let the Braves into the playoffs. I think they’ll need to set their rotation for the postseason and rest their regulars to keep them fresh…

I don't understand why people are pulling for the Cards
I don’t care how epic a Brewers/Cards NLCS would be, those jerks (mostly just TLR) don’t deserve a playoff spot, and the only postseason action St. Louis sees should be on their televisions.

i think you're right
though a sweep of the pirates would take care of that problem…go brewers!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but winning 2 of 3 against the Pirates gives us a franchise record for wins in a season, right?
Nick Petrilli? I liked him better when he was NickBloomfield.
assume the sweep!

Who starts on Wednesday?
Gallardo or Estrada? Do theyuse up Gallardo in the regular season finale and possibly upset the division series rotation?
Go Dodgers! Make it an easy decision to use Estrada on Wednesday!
Right now they're set up for Greinke, Marcum, Gallardo, Wolf, Greinke
That’s all pretty close to normal rest. It would throw off Marcum and Gallardo if they skip his spot in the rotation on the last day of the season. Given the way Gallardo is throwing, I wouldn’t want to change his routine up. Plus, having Gallardo throw 3rd would mean he would be available to start the 1st game of the NLCS. :)
They’ll probably need the game to secure the #2 seed, anyway as Diamondbacks have the tiebreaker so the Brewers have to finish 1 game ahead of them in the standings.
I mock myself
But in trying to secure victory in my fantasy baseball league so that I can pay for playoff tickets, I spent most of the day looking at probable pitched match ups. Somewhere, maybe the official site, suggested that they’d have Gallardo and Greinke each go just a few innings Wednesday (essentially bullpen sessions) to gain flexibility for the playoff rotation.

That is appropriate use of fantasy funds, in my opinion.

technically
4 runs were charged to Narveson. 2 of them were home runs. The other two were runners Kameron Loe allowed to score. Hopefully Loe’s got it all out of his system before the NLDS.
so Arizona finishes the season at home against LA and the Brewers at home against Pittsburgh.
I like the Brewers chances to hold on to the 2 seed, especially if Kershaw is pitching one of those games (I haven’t checked yet if he is)

Kershaw pitched tonight.
7.1 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1BB, 6 K
ERA now at 2.28

Yep
And a ton still to play for. A Brewers win and DBacks loss tonight would really put me at ease.

Not bad for a 5th starter
So, Narveson finishes up his season (at least as a starter) with the following line: 11-8, 161.2 IP in 28 starts, 4.45 ERA (but a 4.06 FIP), 126 Ks, 1.39 WHIP and 1.5 WAR (all stats are via Fangraphs). I have to say, I’m tickled pink at those stats from a 5th starter. I’m far too lazy to research exactly what the average stats for a 5th starter are, but I did a quick Google search, and someone a few years ago compiled some averages that were something like 5-8 with a 5.13 ERA.
