So I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the MVP situation for me. I get the impression from reading around that Matt Kemp has possibly got a lot of support for the award due to his all-around outstanding year. I also would like to admit that I really don't know much about advanced stats.
With that being said, it seems to me that Braun's and Kemp's stats are very close, close enough that they appear to be a wash, though Kemp's are probably slightly better. I mean there's still a (fading) chance to be a triple crown winner. But Braun has a better slugging pct and OPS, and of course BA. So if the numbers are close or even slightly favoring Kemp, but the Dodgers have been playing out the string all year and the Brewers cruised (with plenty of ups and downs, I know) to the division title, doesn't it make this a no-brainer that it's Braun's award? I mean if no player on a playoff team was anywhere near Kemp in stats, I could definitely see it, but given the situation I don't understand how Kemp could get it. Am I missing something?
