Brewers 6, Pirates 4
W: LaTroy Hawkins (3-1)
L: Jared Hughes (0-1)
SV: Axford (46)
HR: Prince Fielder (36,37, 38) Weeks (20)
MVP: Fielder (.651)
LVP: Hart (-.196)
It was the Prince Fielder show tonight as he had his first-ever three home run game. His first tied the game at 1 and his other two were go-ahead home runs. The three now have him tied with Matt Kemp for the league-lead at 38.
Not to be outdone, Rickie Weeks hit his first home run since returning from the DL and it was spectacular - hitting off the middle of the glass windows on the NYCE Club. At 470 feet, it was the longest ever home run at Miller Park by a right-handed batter.
Despite being in the batting title race, I thought it was impressive that Ryan Braun wasn't pressing at the plate and instead took two walks.
Randy Wolf stuggled, lasting just 5.2 innings while giving up four runs on nine hits. He walked in a run with the bases loaded before getting pulled. Kam Loe got out of the bases loaded jam and then LaTroy Hawkins, K-Rod and John Axford each recorded a scoreless inning.
The save for Axford tied him for the NL lead.
The win gave this team 95 for the season, tying franchise record.
As of this writing, Dodgers and Diamondbacks were scoreless, so the win puts the Magic Number at 1, pending that outcome.

Yeah, that's the problem
If you have a player hit four homeruns, it’s usually pretty likely you’re leading by a good amount.
Then again, when Carlos Delgado hit four HR, the Blue Jays only won 10-8, I think, and Delgado’s WPA was just over .100.

I also hope they do this to eliminate anyway for the Phils and Brewers, the 2 best teams, to meet in the DS.

If you buy them now, you can still get good pricing. They sell by the game (i.e. game 1, game 2) without times or dates, but if this game holds on brewers will play saturday and sunday at miller park…i got loge infield tix for about $90/ticket for a group of 8 this afternoon

I guess I just think the Packers' line is too big
At one point one of the Vegas oddsmakers had the Packers as 13 point favorites, which seemed like too much to me. The Packers still have too many questions on defense to have a line that big.
I think the Badgers line is ridiculously too big.
Isn’t it 9.5? That’s silly.

It's at Camp Randall
Where the badgers get at least a 4 point bump (more than other teams, like UW basketball).
The true line is about 3-4 to the badgers, and people are betting hard on the badgers to cover, so the line moved to 10 from 8.
I think you have that backwards
the Badgers line is (reportedly) bigger than all but two NFL teams

One of the benefits of being the Super Bowl Champs
I don’t think it’s the lead game for any expected competative reasons, probably just that CBS doesn’t get to broadcast very many Packer games so they want to grab the extra ratings while they can.

Unbelievable.
If you want something done right, you’ve gotta do it yourself.
Tomorrow, we end this.

Wisconsin just grew a weather-Stache!!! It's angry!

FanGraphs should consider a venue for a Gallery Night... they could even serve a cake with a Win Expectancy Chart of the 7/7/11 Brewers' game etched in the frosting, and 7-up. Oh, yeah - and t-shirts that say "SABR-Friday." I'm totally there.

I just rotated this to get the mustache

Oh I saw what you did
Also looks like you reflected it.
I just don’t see a mustache or a face in the picture.
Not really a face...

Just the handle-bars. I have arrows pointing to the outlines.
Will this work?

To his credit
Sutton called it in the top of the tenth…
Great fans suffer through bad season after bad season with the hope of a great one once in their lifetime. And when one comes around, the only thing you can do is stop, watch, and never forget this feeling. Because you don't know when it will come around again.

And I bet all 14000 fans of the announced 17000 attendance or so went nuts.

Still, you have to admire the Diamondbacks tenacity.
They definitely didn’t give up after falling so far behind.
Go get'em, Greinke!

I truly feel ill
Go get em Greinke and company…thank god its the pirates at least. Tomorrow we’ll seal our own fate cause LA clearly can’t do a damned thing

Well, here's hoping the Brewers score anout 15 runs in the first couple of innings tomorrow and Greinke can rest.
I have no concept.
So I left to take a shower, feeling pretty good about the 6-1 Dodgers lead in the top of the 10th
Only to find out the D-Backs scored 6 runs to win. What. Happened.
It was pathetic management by Matingly, he left Hawksworth in there way too long.
Also, there was an error, so that’s nice too.
I have no concept.
The Dodgers bullpen did a good job in August, though...
…at Miller Park. They helped us get the runs the L.A. starters didn’t want to give up. Especially some of those home runs. So I kind of like them for that bit of business.

Still a lot on the line for the last day of the regular season
- seed in both leagues is still up for grabs. Milwaukee and Texas are in the same situation, both have one-game leads entering the last day, but the team below them has the tiebreaker.
Also both wild cards are still up for grabs and currently tied in both leagues.

Damn auto-formatting.
That should read #2 seed in both leagues.

At it's lowest, after Gerardo Parra grounded out for two outs in the bottom of the tenth, the Dodgers win probability was 99.9%.
Going into the bottom of the tenth, it was 99.1%
Why do people always seem to post what I'm going to say seconds before I post it?
I’m not a slow typer. I think I just overthink what I’m thinking about and by the time I stop thinking and start typing what I was thinking about, the stuff I was thinking about what thought about by someone else and transferred from thoughts to text before I could transfer what I was thinking about to text.

As much as that sucked, it's why I love baseball. You can't kneel and run out the cock.
I have no concept.
That's an unfortunate typo...

Going into the bottom of the 10th, it was 99.1%
At it’s worst, it was 99.9% with two outs and no one on base.

Fangraphs has him, not updated, at 5.0.
Look back tomorrow and see what it is, subtract 5.0, and you’ll have your answer.
I know, I was just perusing Fangraphs and I was wondering.
Braun has also closed the fWAR gap with Kemp. He now trails him by just .7 WAR. I guess I was wondering how much of that gap could potentially be closed in one game if one player has a great game and the other has a horrible game.
If your worrying about WAR deciding the NL MVP... don't Kemp wont win because of WAR...
That being said, I think if Prince can finish with the most HR’s in the NL and Braun the highest BA I think Braun can solidify his MVP candidacy… as weird as it sounds 38 HR’s for Kemp on an MVP ballot don’t seem as impressive if its #2 in the NL instead of #1… At least that’s how I think a lot of sports writers will feel…
Streak Breakers.com
I'm not really worrying about anything.
I think Braun has it and deserves it.. I was just curious about how one day can impact WAR.
So glad I didn't watch last night's Diamondbacks-Dodgers game - the D-Backs are starting to annoy the crap out of me
Their second-order W-L is 10 games lower than their actual W-L. That’s essentially 10 wins of luck! No one else in the NL other than the Pirates has more than +4.3.
Those Fortunalucky bastards!

Interesting
They have definitely played a bit over their heads. I have nothing against that team and it would be nice to say ‘hey good job’ this year. But that’s only if they would just accept their fate as the 3 seed already! Argghhh.

I went to this awesome game last night, but have a question for those who watched it on TV
How close was that play in the first inning when the umpire called McCutchen safe at 1B?
He looked out by at least a step when I saw it live.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
It looked like the ball beat him by a hair.
It definitely looked like he was out real time though.

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
