McCalvy just tweeted that the Cubs offered Counsell the 1B coaching job, so DM probably wanted to keep him within the organization (and not lose him to the Cubs).
For some reason, I don’t see Counsell as a coach… more like a FO type guy. It’s probably more my perception because if he’s wearing a uniform and standing on the field, he’d probably be mistaken as a player.
