Haudricourt also expects there to be a mult-year deal
So unless there was a last minute disagreement, it’s probably done.

The deal almost has to be three years, right?
Aoki has no MLB service time, so a deal for less than three years would give the Brewers the ability to simply renew him for the league minimum for the second and/or third years.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Usually when a Japanese player comes over to the US
If the contract is for less than 3 years I think there is some sort of clause in it regarding becoming a FA rather than the team being able to renew the player. That is also true regarding what would normally be the arbritration years of the player’s career.
I'm very excited.
Although- this might signify bad news for Ryan Braun/ maybe bad news for Gamel since you can probably afford to put Hart at first more, now.

Norichika is a badass.
Wants to play in the MLB, so he’s just going to force playing time!
If Plush had to pick Wearwolf or Vampire, I'm a Wearwolf!
Seriously, I think it’s cool that he is willing to put in the work and confident enough that he’s taking a playing time and (possible) salary cut in order to play here.

Do we know what he would have made in Japan?
That’s something I occasionally wonder about.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
According to
this link he made 330million yen last year which is about $4.3million at today’s exchange rate rather than the $4million it was then.
So he most likely is taking a pay cut, then.
Although he probably stands to make that money back after this contract, when he’s either a US free agent or a Japanese player returning from the US.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Needs a nickname... Suggestions?

I got caught up in a blanket warning over at the (football) Giants site, if that's what you mean.
The ban from the Cardinals site is nearly a year old now. Is there something else I’m forgetting?

The Smell-o-scope
Fry: Oh, man, this is great… hey, as long as you don’t make me smell Uranus.
Leela: I don’t get it.
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: I’m sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all.
Fry: Oh. What’s it called now?
Professor Hubert Farnsworth: Urrectum. Here, let me locate it for you.
Fry: No, no, I, I think I’ll just smell around a bit over here.

The Brewers almost certainly will call him that.
It fits perfectly into their “single syllable plus a y sound” theme.

Melvin already called him that in the McCalvy article

According to BrewerNation
the 3rd year option is a club option.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Yes you can.
His potential is more valuable to us than what we could get in a trade. Because of his injury, another team won’t want to give much up for him.

Yes. But it's not like he can't sit in the minors for a year.
I think a trade of Hart, Morgan, or Gomez is more likely. Each of those guys would net more in return than Schafer.
I don’t know. I like Schafer a lot, for some reason, so this might be me rooting moreso than predicting.
So with this signing, the Brewers are pretty much guaranteed to have a payroll over 100M, no?
I assume Aoki will cost the club around 4 million this year (2.5 posting fee, plus 1.5 salary).
I have the payroll around $93M right now w/out Aoki's salary
If Plush had to pick Wearwolf or Vampire, I'm a Wearwolf!
My estimate is at 101.465 right now. Could be a little lower if Marcum goes to his arbitration hearing and loses.
That’s with Cesar Izturis, Taylor Green, and Zach Braddock rounding out the roster. My payroll estimates:
Aoki-4 M
Marcum-7.725
Veras-2.25

I'm only counting actual payroll, i.e. the 25-man

At least the Brewers don't have to worry about reallocating the press box space set aside for Japanese media
They still have that prepped from Saito’s days as a Brewer.
Contributor on Brew Crew Ball, Commissioner of Prognostikeggers, Owner of a broken sarcasm detector
I wonder if Saito's interpreter followed him to Arizona, or if he'll stick around and transition to Aoki.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
It's a good question.
My guess is while it’s a good paying job, it’s probably not enough to be constantly moving around. Unless it is someone that has worked with Saito for years, the interpreter is probably club-based instead of player-based.

Update! Via Sponichi News via Yakyu Baka
UPDATE @ 9:39am – Sponichi mentions that the deal could be for around US$1M – 1.5M a year. A separate Sponichi report notes that Nez Balelo may have convinced the Brewers to bid for Aoki by telling them that he was a quality player that would not be expecting a lot of money.

Does Balelo secretly work for the Brewers?
He got Braun’s team-friendly deal done, then tips them off on Aoki.
Considering his top client is signed here through 2089, he might as well.
