Braun's Appeal Hearing Happened Today, According to the New York Daily News
It may still be continued until tomorrow, though that apparently remains unclear.
EDIT: Here are a few notes Kyle had in his duplicate FanShot:
- The panel hearing the appeal consists of union chief Michael Weiner, MLB VP of Labor Relations Rob Manfred and an independent arbitrator.
- The appeal was heard today (and may continue into tomorrow), meaning the previous report of it being scheduled for January 23 or 24 is incorrect.
- No announcements are expected this week.

I was a few seconds behind with my FanShot, so I've edited this one to merge the two.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
What are the chances the results leak too?
Think they pushed it up a week so they could do it before the BBWAA avards?

Also, if his defense is that he didn't "knowingly" take PEDs...
He’s in deep doo-doo.

I think it makes a huge difference
He may still be suspended because MLB has shown that not knowing is not a defense but still if MLB comes out and says yes you did not know you were taking a banned substance and yes you were not trying to cheat but you are still going to have to serve the 50 games he gets his good name back. long term that is huge. Will it matter to dumb ass Cub or Cards fans no but it may save him getting into the Hall down the road.

I like this idea, but what are the chances that MLB says what you suggest here?
It seems to me that would be a ridiculous thing for them to do. They’d effectively be saying “You’re guilty…kinda”.

I dunno
I think it might be a sensible way to save a little face for one of the sport’s biggest stars.
We pull our pants up and do our jobs here.
I think it's what's going to happen.
They say “Look, we’re sorry, we know you didn’t try to do anything bad, but rules are rules.” They look tough on PED’s, Braun’s good name is preserved.

Nah, they'd be saying "even the MVP can be guilty, and rules are rules..."
Even if your breaking the rules was in no way done in an attempt to cheat.

it would seem a bit strange for Braun to go accept his award mere moments after being suspended 50 games,
so the hyper optimist in me is thinking he’s going to be cleared. there’s that nasty feeling in my gut that he’ll serve the time but who really wants to think about that right now?
The verdict probably won't be out by Saturday.

Inside info from Braun party
Craig J. Counsell has been added to defense negotiations and, in turn, Michael Weiner has dropped out of hearing to return to his mother’s shoulder.
Braun's intention to speak at the awards dinner makes more sense now
I couldn’t figure out why he was going to wait until 2 days before his trial when he could’ve spoken out weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if the wrong appeal date had been leaked on purpose so he wouldn’t be getting especially hassled on the eve of the appeal.
I don’t really hold any hope that he’ll avoid suspension, but I’m hoping it turns out to be something like a supplement approved by a non-team doctor which apparently caused the testosterone levels.
In other news, the Pardon The Interruption guys got it wrong during their segment today stating that he tested positive for steroids. They legitimately consider themselves journalists so it’s disappointed to hear them get a basic fact about the case wrong.

Reali didn't correct them in the end?

It wasn't the point of the segment, so I don't think it was worth a correction
The technicality itself would take 20 seconds to explain which isn’t conducive to the format of the show. It would’ve been nice for them to have stated “elevated testosterone levels,” though, rather than PEDs.

No he did not correct them. That is the whole problem here. Elevated testosterone does not mean steroids. Yet eveyone jumps to that conclusion.

baun is a cheater
What do you think the paid-by-ryan-braun camp is going to say?
It is a joke he is accepting the mvp.
braun can be happy in that he has already signed his mega-deal, has blind followers, and is about to get a 2 month holiday.
I am sure the faithful shall give this cheater a standing ovation in his first home game…but don’t expect the same kindness from the rest of the mlb crowds.
And here we have a classic example of the kind of crap we're going to be dealing with for months.

That was a well thought out and insightful post. Thank you.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
I dont get why everyones hating
taking “the most steroids ever seen in an MLB drug test” doesnt really make one better. I mean baseball wise it does but in real life it doesnt. So instead of him feel bad for him… he made a mistake (and if not caught, probably would continue) but he probably regrets it. Does anyone want to be looked down upon and make his team look silly?
