Travis Ishikawa
4 people want Travis Ishikawa to get most of the starts @ 1st base? They must be Cubs fans trolling…

or they're really big fans of defense
Ishikawa IS good at that, the hitting not so much, so if you think that Gamel’s D would reduce the impact of his offensive contribution to the point where Ishikawa’s defense minus his horrible offense would be better, I can see where someone could make that decision.
Gamel’s defense isn’t that bad.
I think the Brewers will take Marcum to arbitration
I think the Brewers are much closer to his value than Marcum’s figure. I don’t see the two sides agreeing on a number between the offers and I don’t they should. Marcum is good, but there’s no way he’s worth $7.5 million.

His typical season is 150 innings with a sub-1.2 WHIP
He’s worth about 3.5 WAR a season – that is more than $7.5MM. I’ve been listening to people talk about how we should trade him since last October and I don’t understand it. Without his services last year we probably don’t win the division.

On the free agent market, not through arbitration.
I think Melvin would win in arbitration. No reason to settle unless an extension is planned to keep him in the organization.
Solve for X: 5.5 (Fielder) + 0.3 (McGehee) + 0.5 (Betancourt) < X (Gamel) + 3.6 (Ramirez) + 1.1 (Gonzalez)... X >= 1.7 fWAR!
This is the gist of it
"If we want to sign a Type A free agent, we would lose a second-round pick, but we don't have a way to get picks back. Our whole Draft process needs to be redone."
~Doug Melvin
"Something always good seems to happen when he's in there. Numbers matched up good."

I'm kinda surprised that such a majority of people liked offering K-Rod arbitration in the first place...
At the time it looked like a sure thing that he would decline
Out of desire for a longer contract and the opportunity to close elsewhere – we just wanted the draft pick

This
No one expected K-Rod to accept arbitration. I bet even K-Rod and Boras didn’t expect to after the season ended.
Just wondering
Are there any teams that effectively “sold high and bought low” on the closer market? Were there any teams that called it right? It seems to me that the moment the Phils signed Johnathan Papelbon the market started dropping, and I’m not sure if it has bottomed out yet, but people should have their holes filled by now.
