The Brewers, who are comfortable with lefty Chris Narveson as their fifth starter, would sign Oswalt only at the right price.

Keep the money flowing, Mark!
Solve for X: 5.5 (Fielder) + 0.3 (McGehee) + 0.5 (Betancourt) < X (Gamel) + 3.6 (Ramirez) + 1.1 (Gonzalez)... X >= 1.7 fWAR!

With a full season
Roy would prob be worth 2 more WAR than Narv-dog.
Offer him 1/$8MM, see what happens.
How about...
2/15 and trade Randy Wolf? Not that I think we could trade him without having to eat a good bit of his salary.
In fact
now that I think of it, who would eat Wolf’s salary with Oswalt on the market, potentially for less…
I could see that
Schlesinger mentioned earlier in the week that the projected payroll for this season is $108-112M, which means they still have $8-12M to work with (assuming that this amount isn’t going to be kept for mid-season transactions).
I think he means that's what they've already committed to pay players.
And I think he’s adding in something that we’re not adding in. So, basically, I’m guessing that when he says “projected payroll” he’s talking about what it projects to be NOW, not what it could rise up to.
Unless it includes the entire 40-man roster
I don’t think the current payroll is quite that high (even if they lose arbitration to both Marcum and Veras).
Yeah, the right price is probably "cheaper than Narveson"
Ain’t gonna happen. (I hadn’t realized that Narveson hasn’t even hit his arb year yet. !!!!!)
Narveson does have an injury history that isn’t related to stabbing himself with sharp objects, but that was when he was in the Cardinals org in ‘07, and has been fine since. Oswalt had that horrible back problem in 2011 that was so bad it was rumored that he may be retiring. I think that’s why so many teams are incredibly wary of him or would only sign him to the traditional discount, minor league, or split contract.
I wouldn't say no to Oswalt at the right price,
but why not offer Sheets a million if we’re taking chances with potentially great pitchers? I would do that in a heartbeat (not suggesting he would, but I doubt he’s getting much in the way of offers at this point).

One thing is for sure
He’s never, ever entered camp in the Best Shape of His Life so it doesn’t particularly matter if he’s been throwing. I doubt he’s seriously pursuing baseball this year.
As a 2-pitch starting pitcher, I suppose that's pretty important
If he can still get that ludicrous sink on his curve ball, someone could try converting him to a closer in the style of Trevor Hoffman and his chageup. Guys know it’s coming and there’s nothing they can do about it.
