Not sure how much truth there is to this...

Zero truth
It’s just some guy musing about a hypothetical, isn’t it? No specific reason to believe that Brewers would have been interested.
Solve for X: 5.5 (Fielder) + 0.3 (McGehee) + 0.5 (Betancourt) < X (Gamel) + 3.6 (Ramirez) + 1.1 (Gonzalez)... X >= 1.7 fWAR!
Also, I highly doubt anybody "bullies" Prince Fielder...

Why would the Brewers have wanted Howard over Fielder?
Fielder is better and costs less.
2011: A wasted year
He does not cost less.
Maybe per year, but Howard signed for 5 years, Fielder signed for 9. HUGE difference there.

Right
Plus he also mentions that the Phillies would have to eat 30% of Howard’s contract, which would’ve made it more like:
12:$14M, 13:$14M, 14:$M, 15:$17.5M, 16:$17.5M, 17:$23M club option ($10M buyout)
I think those amounts, the Brewers might have considered it, but I’m not sure who they would’ve had to send over to the Phillies to get them to eat that much of that contract.

Pure speculation.
The source even says, “I think Milwaukee would have inquired.” That’s completely different than saying, “The Milwaukee Brewers did, in fact, inquire.” I would have shuddered at what the Brewer would have had to give up to get Howard, who’s in his decline, if they even would have had the ability to do so.
