What do you think?

He makes a pretty good case.
But I’m tired of hearing about it. Please don’t make last season more painful.
He makes a good point?
Bob Costas is a moron and so is anyone that thinks the MVP should have a “re-vote.” Idiotic.
Solve for X: 5.5 (Fielder) + 0.3 (McGehee) + 0.5 (Betancourt) < X (Gamel) + 3.6 (Ramirez) + 1.1 (Gonzalez)... X >= 1.7 fWAR!

when did he make a good case?
I caught his interview this morning on the radio, Dan Patrick show was it? His “thoughts” were pretty worthless. He said MLB should be like NFL in that a player failing a drug test is not eligible for any awards/rewards relating to that season. Of course MLB has nothing to do with the Baseball Writer’s awards. And MLB hasn’t said a single official word about the Braun situation. So why would the writer’s do anything?
The other thing Costas said was “no one has ever won an appeal with MLB.” I can’t even believe how much this line keeps being repeated. It is almost certainly false, however at a minimum it would be unknown due to the intended “confidentiality” of the process. Have you read any story on Braun’s hearing with MLB earlier this month? Did you catch the part where it was reported that should Braun be cleared, there would most likely be no announcement by MLB?
I guess I never really had an opinion either way on Costas before this. He sounds like a smart guy, or at least a well-educated one, but anytime someone making an argument can’t get the basic facts right it sure damages their credibility.

It's 100% False
Players in the Brewers organization have won appeals.
Solve for X: 5.5 (Fielder) + 0.3 (McGehee) + 0.5 (Betancourt) < X (Gamel) + 3.6 (Ramirez) + 1.1 (Gonzalez)... X >= 1.7 fWAR!

I think I don't like Bob Costas very much
Little know-it-all brat who never played the game. I always imagined that he and John Madden would totally hate each other. Bob is the bobble-head big mouth who memorizes facts but has no practical experience, Madden is the veteran of the game who passionately emotes the broadcast like a Batman comic. Boom! I could totally see them at odds with each other.
Costas: And there’s another dropped pass by McKenzie, three in this game so far.
Madden: That’s not his fault though, the pass was thrown behind him on the run.
Costas: He got his hands on it, he should be able to catch it.
Madden: It was a pretty athletic play just to get his hand on it and looking at the replay he pays for it (Boom!) with a hit by Lewis after the miss.
Costas: Apt punishment, because these dropped passes just end up making the QB look bad.
Madden: Good, because he is bad. He’s bad because (scribbling arrows on the monitor) the pass rush is folding in the right side, he’s throwing on the run and releasing off his back foot, the ball sails, and the receiver’s run past it, and (Boom!)
Costas: Really a tragedy that a quality QB like Davidson is performing as well as can be expected and his team is crumbling around him.
Madden: A tragedy? He turned down a great offer to stay with the Broncos to come here and be their #1 and he knew they were in rebuilding mode. For an eight-round draft pick from Moosechowder State he’s even lucky to be a starter in the NFL, and by now he should know when to throw and when to tuck the ball and take a loss.
Costas: He’s a proven QB, he deserves that money. He filled in for an injured Miller last season and finished fourth in yards, third in completion percentage, regardless of where he’s from he’s proven he belongs here now.
Madden: That’s just one season, he needs more work. With the system they had in Denver and QB coach Stan Monhonimew even you could throw for 4000 yards. For that kid to come in here and expect to anchor the offense is unrealistic expectations.
Costas: But the numbers don’t lie. This is a quarterback on the rise.
Madden: Forget the numbers, when the game is on the line the kid just won’t be able to deliver.
Costas: And there’s some sound analysis for you.
Madden: Yeah, it is, you little punk. I was winning football games in the NFL back when your mother was making you take violin lessons, so (Boom!)
I honestly can’t remember if they’ve broadcasted together or not, but I just picture Madden getting fed up with him, and his little arms ending up on a turducken one Thanksgiving.
Mark Attanasio is the best.
I don't think they've ever done a broadcast together
The only time they worked for the same network was when Madden came over to NBC for Sunday night games, but Madden would do color commentary of the games, while Costas is pretty much only in the studio.
Where Madden couldn't reach him
To tear off his arms or run him over with the Madden Cruiser.
Mark Attanasio is the best.
I don't think I have ever heard Madden say anything this itelligent.
He says stuff like
“Corey Dillon is…. a runningback!”
and
“If you catch the ball in the end zone, it is a touchdown!”
"I haven't been out carousing." -Aaron Rodgers
The goal here is to score more points than your opponent!
"Our attitude is we look at ourselves and we grade ourselves. And even if we don’t like what’s happening on the other side, we don’t make a — it’s not our business" - Tony Larussa
He does, but it sounds like rambling
And you fall asleep to the scribbling and wake up to “BOOM!” I’ve always enjoyed the things he comes up with on plays. I’ll see a QB sack, he’ll see someone turning their shoulder the wrong way on a block, etc. He’s got great insight into the game. He was much better with this years ago when his vision was better.
Mark Attanasio is the best.
I don't agree with Costas in this instance....
… but that “never played the game” criticism is a crock.

Multiple axes to grind
Not only does Costas miss the boat on cases being over turned confidentially, he clearly has a beef about Braun winning in the first place:
“In fact, if the Dodgers had been contenders, Kemp would have won anyway because he actually had a better year than Braun.”
That, I believe, is debatable, as we discussed in great depth in the fall.

Bingo.
And that’s really what 90% of the “he should give it back” or “they should re-vote” stuff is about. Anyone who thinks or says Braun should be stripped of his MVP one way or another should be saying in the same argument that Bonds should give back his MVPs, and probably that Bonds (and a number of other players) should have their names removed from the record books if they hold any significant records. Because if they don’t, they’re just guys who didn’t want Braun to win the first place.

To be a fly on the wall...
So Aaron Rodgers, reportedly a good friend of Ryan Braun, just spent several hours working with Bob Costas on Super Bowl pre-game coverage. Do you think they spent any time discussing Braun while working together?
