The late 90's Brewer turns 40 today.
On this day in 1972 Marc Newfield was born in Sacramento, California. He was still only 17 when the Mariners selected him with the #7 overall pick in the 1990 draft, and made his major league debut as a 20 year old in 1993. Baseball America listed him as one of the game's top 50 prospects for five straight seasons between 1991-95.
Unfortunately, Newfield never lived up to the hype. He played six seasons in the majors and hit .249/.303/.375 over 355 games split between three teams, including three years as a Brewer from 1996-98. When the Brewers released him following the 1998 season he was done with the majors despite being just 26 years old.
Newfield turns 40 today. With help from the B-Ref Play Index, we'd also like to wish a happy birthday to:
- 1999-2000 Brewer Horacio Estrada, who turns 37.
- 1997 Brewer Mark Davis, who turns 52.
- 1972 Brewer Brock Davis, who turns 69.
- 1964-65 Milwaukee Brave Sandy Alomar Sr., who turns 69.
