Derrick Turnbow was one of the more incredible and eventually polarizing players in recent Brewer history. He was a revelation in 2005, coming out of obscurity to set a Brewer franchise record with 39 saves. The next year he got off to a hot start again, but faded badly down the stretch and finished the season with a 6.87 ERA.

Turnbow was done as a Brewer after just eight major league appearances in 2008, but he resurfaced in 2009 in AAA with the Rangers. He reported to spring training in 2010 to attempt a comeback as a member of the Marlins, but on this day that year they released him. He reportedly needed shoulder surgery, but was planning on retiring instead.

Turnbow was just 32 years old at the time, but he hasn't played affiliated baseball since. He retired with 179 games pitched in the minors and 257 in the majors. 218 of those appearances came as a Brewer, where he posted a 4.64 ERA and struck out 222 in 198 innings.
