Cubs 8, Brewers 0: Ron Roenicke's Postgame Comments

As seen on FS Wisconsin:

Was this bad luck or bad pitching for Zack Greinke?

Both. Zack, after the first two innings when he was so good keeping the ball down low, started elevating his pitches and I know they didn't continue to hit the ball that hard but everything felt apart and everything was placed perfectly. But it was a lot on his pitches too.

On Alex Gonzalez's throwing error when Mat Gamel wasn't on first base:

Yeah, he thought it was going up the middle and broke too early.

I couldn't hear this question, but presumably it was also about Gamel:

Yeah, you can. We haven't seen anything so far, he's been doing such a good job that I know sometimes things are going to come up. Anytime you change positions and a guy's had a year to do it, I expect things to happen. You don't want them to, but Mat's playing good there. I know he was upset about it, but he's been doing a good job.

Did Braun get caught in no-man's land and end up not diving for Steve Clevenger's bloop double to lead off the third?

That and I asked him, he didn't see the ball off the bat real well, it was slicing up into the sun. So the combination of all that and he wasn't sure if he was going to dive but who knows? If he catches that it may have been a different game.

On what led to the decision to remove Zack Greinke:

Well, the last hit. When he threw four straight balls I wasn't convinced he was going to turn it around. We sent him back out there for the fourth because we thought he could have a chance to get it back together. And for the first batter I thought he threw it well, but then he started missing and the four straight, that's what the decision came down to.

On Matt Garza:

Yes, I've seen him throw a lot of good games and that was as good as I've seen him. Great command of the fastball, life, velocity on the fastball the whole game. Great slider, and he mixes in the changeup well. So he's a tough pitcher. I know when we face him if you let him get through the first couple of innings he really finds his groove and it's tough to get to him.

On a ball that got through the shifted infield in the third:

I don't think it has anything to do with the shift. (He said more here, but FS Wisconsin cut away.)
