Stat Of The Night: Ice Cold Soup

Stay connected for news and updates

Jeff Suppan, you have got to be kidding me.

As you're probably well aware, Jeff Suppan and a collection of relievers shut out the Brewers tonight. Suppan pitched five scoreless innings and allowed four hits and two walks.

You may not know, however, that Suppan also pitched six scoreless innings in his previous major league start in October of 2010 during a Cardinals win over the Rockies. So, while it took him most of two calendar years to do so, Jeff Suppan has posted back-to-back scoreless starts.

This is Suppan's 17th major league season, and this is the first time he's ever posted back-to-back scoreless starts.

He didn't do it in four seasons (97 starts) as a Brewer. He didn't do it in five seasons (133 starts) as a Royal. And he didn't even do it during his career years in St. Louis (108 starts). But he's done it now between 2010 and 2012, and he spent most of the time between those two games getting crushed by AAA hitters.

Baseball is unbelievable, and not always in a good way.
