News and Notes:
- Carlos Marmol is on the med, at least physically, and is one step closer to returning from an injury to his right hamstring that forced the reliever to the disabled list. Marmol is eligible to activate on Sunday.
- When the Pirates need to rely on their pitching to succeed things don't look very bright for the Bucs in the near future. Amazingly, the club has remained competitive despite their subpar offensive production.
- The Cardinals have placed Matt Carpenter on the disabled list and have called up catcher Steven Hill from Triple-A to take his place on both the 25 and 40-man rosters.
- Injured Reds reliever Nick Masset, who hasn't thrown at all this season due to a right shoulder strain, could throw for the first time today.
