Win Expectancy Graph

Despite the score, let's chalk this one up as a win, as the team was getting perfect game'd by Ryan Dempster through the sixth inning. It would have been incredibly demoralizing to have been no-hit by the Cubs (and Dempster, who's riding an 18-game winless streak). Not that losing 10-0 exactly raised the spirits.

The hit went to Cody Ransom and was followed by hits Gomez, and in the next inning, Braun. But other than a deep foul by Martin Maldonado, the Brewers failed to get anything impressive going on the Cubs. They couldn't get a ball out of the infield for the first few innings.

Dempster was at 62 pitches to start the sixth inning and was pretty much only pulled in the 8th because they were up seven runs and his spot came up with the bases loaded. The win was his first since August of 2011.

On the flip side, Yovani Gallardo gave up a first-inning, three-run home run to Alfonso Soriano, putting the game out of reach of the struggling offense from the get-go. He did settle down and recorded 10 strikeouts (a season high) over his six innings, but gave up five earned runs, bringing his season ERA up to 4.50.

In the seventh and eighth innings they had a leadoff double and then runners at second and third with no outs and failed to score both times.

The Cubs scored ten runs on ten hits while striking out 14 times. It was just the second time all season they've scored in double digits.
