The 2009 MLB draft wasn't exactly a shining moment for the Brewer organization. None of the first 23 players they selected that year have reached the majors.
Their 24th pick, however, has turned into a pretty good story. 22nd round pick Michael Fiers, a 24-year-old college senior from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, posted a 2.80 ERA over 93 professional appearances and earned a cup of coffee in the big leagues for the first time in 2011. Today he'll make his third professional start.
Fiers is one of just six players drafted after the 12th round in 2009 who have reached the majors:
| Player | Team | Round | Selection |
| Matt Carpenter | Cardinals | 13 | 399 |
| Drew Hutchison | Blue Jays | 15 | 460 |
| Anthony Vasquez | Mariners | 18 | 533 |
| J.D. Martinez | Astros | 20 | 611 |
| Michael Fiers | Brewers | 22 | 676 |
| Matt Adams | Cardinals | 23 | 699 |
With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to:
- 2006 Brewer Drew Anderson, who turns 31.
- 1990 Brewer Tom Edens, who turns 51.
- 1990 Brewer Dave Parker, who turns 61.
