Today In Brewer history: Molitor Cracks 1000

Stay connected for news and updates

On this day in 1985 the Brewers entered the ninth inning trailing the Red Sox 3-2, but scored a single run in the ninth to send the game to extra innings and won it in the tenth on Ted Simmons' walkoff sac fly.

Paul Molitor scored the winning run on that day after leading off the tenth inning with a double. It was Molitor's fourth hit of the day and the 1000th of his career.

At the time Molitor was just the fourth Brewer ever to reach 1000 hits as a Brewer, joining Robin Yount, Cecil Cooper and Don Money. Ben Oglivie hit his 1000th later in the season, and five others have joined them since. If he keeps up his current pace Ryan Braun will also have 1000 by the end of July.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to:

Today is also the 23rd anniversary of Robin Yount's 2500th hit. We covered that event in this space last year.
