Today In Brewer History: Bill Bruton's Clutch Triples

Stay connected for news and updates

On this day in 1959 the Milwaukee Braves and St. Louis Cardinals split a doubleheader in front of over 42,000 fans at County Stadium. The Cardinals won the first game 4-3, but the Braves' offense powered them to an 11-5 win in the nightcap.

Braves center fielder Bill Bruton was a big part of the offense on this day as he hit two triples, both with the bases loaded. The first one gave Milwaukee a 4-0 lead in the first, and the second improved the lead to 10-3 in the sixth.

According to the B-Ref Bullpen, Bruton was the only player to hit two bases loaded triples in the same game in the entire 20th century.
