Fangraphs Win Expectancy Chart

The Brewers spread nine hits throughout the game, but could not bring anyone in to score against Jeff Karstens and the Pirates. Milwaukee didn't have more than three hitters hit in an inning until the fifth frame, when Aramis Ramirez doubled and the team avoided hitting into a double play. The Brewers threatened in the eighth inning with two singles to lead off but a force out to get the lead runner, a strikeout, and another force out ended the inning.

Aramis Ramirez led the Brewers offense with three hits while Jeff Bianchi was the only other Brewer to reach base safely twice. Ramirez had the only extra base hit for Milwaukee, a double in the fifth.

Shaun Marcum's return from an elbow injury went pretty well. He pitched five innings on 88 pitches, allowing five hits and no earned run. Four runs scored off him, however, due to two errors in the fifth inning, including a rare fielding error by Carlos Gomez.

The Pirates and Brewers will go at it one more time tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 12:35pm.
