While Yovani Gallardo may not be as flashy as some of the other pitchers out there, he will usually keep the Brewers in the game. Tonight's start was his 24th quality start of the season. He's only three quality starts away from setting the Brewers record for quality starts in a season, and two away from tying it. Here is a list of the season leaders:
| Player | Season | Quality Starts |
| Marty Pattin | 1971 | 26 |
| Teddy Higuera | 1986 | 26 |
| Mike Caldwell | 1978 | 25 |
| Chris Capuano | 2006 | 25 |
| Teddy Higuera | 1988 | 24 |
| Doug Davis | 2004 | 24 |
| Ben Sheets | 2004 | 24 |
| Yovani Gallardo | 2012 | 24 |
With 3-4 starts left this season (depending on if Ron Roenicke decides to manipulate the pitching schedule), he will have a chance to either tie or break the record this year. With the Brewers in a hot playoff race for the second wild card spot, they will need every quality start they can get to make this happen.
