Seven days ago the Brewers entered play just a game and a half back in the race for the final wild card spot in the NL. It's been a pretty rough week since then.
The Brewers are now 2-5 in the last seven days after losing 7-6 to the (now 52-105) Astros tonight, their first loss in a Yovani Gallardo start since July. Gallardo was off for most of the night tonight, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks over six innings. He did, however, strike out his 200th batter of the season.
For the second straight day Carlos Gomez hit a solo home run in a losing effort. Jean Segura also had three hits today, including a ninth inning double.
Tonight's loss dropped the Brewers to 80-77 and five games back of the Cardinals with five games to play. They could be eliminated from postseason contention with a loss or a Cardinal win tomorrow.
This series continues at 6:10 tomorrow night when Dallas Keuchel takes on Marco Estrada.
