MLB Trade Rumors is reporting tonight that the Brewers have reached a deal on a one-year contract with center fielder Carlos Gomez, avoiding arbitration. Gomez will receive $4.3 million for the 2013 season, according to Adam McCalvy. The Dominican center fielder made $1.9625 million in 2012 plus $25,000 in incentives.

Gomez and the Brewers were scheduled to exchange salary proposals tomorrow as part of the arbitration process. Barring another last-minute deal the team will still swap dollar figures with John Axford, Burke Badenhop and Marco Estrada.

This is Gomez's fourth arbitration-eligible season (he was a Super 2 in 2010), so he's due to become a free agent following the season. A November poll showed 62% of fans felt the Brewers should try to sign him to a long term deal this winter, but I don't know if that was ever seriously discussed. Gomez is represented by Scott Boras, so that probably complicates matters a bit.
